Huggy Bears† - Huggy Bears Winners of 6 Straight
After starting the season a dismal 1-7, the Huggy Bears have reeled off six consecutive wins in league play, outscoring their opponents 43-11 in that span. In the team's last game, goalie Marcellus Gonzalez recorded his first shutout of the season, stopping all 16 shots faced.
The teams recent success, rising from 18th in the league to 8th, can be credited to the mid-season hiring of General Manager Bruno Sena who proceeded to put together a staff that has brought direction to what was a listless team.
"I think you have to look at what our coaching staff has done in the last few weeks of the season," Sena commented when asked on how to explain the Huggy Bears turn around.
While Sena deflected praise to his staff, his work in bringing in several key additions to the team cannot be overlooked. The additions of Ondrej Tonkovič, Filip Mužík, Alexej Šimůnek, Yakov Voinov, Aurel Ion, and Pavel Procházka brought much needed experience to an otherwise green group of players. Mixed with such promising prospects such as Zack Williams, Marcellus Gonzalez, and Thomas Rosen, Sena has put together a team determined to become a force in III.7.
When asked about about team chemistry, Coach Klement Mlčoch responded by saying, "Coming into the season we had a lot of young players entering their first season of professional play, so it anyone's guess how the team would mesh. I think any questions about how our team was going to react to bringing in some of those guys can be answered by looking at our record. Kind of speaks for itself, doesn't it?"
Not to be overlooked is that the team struggled mightily offensively prior to the addition of this crop of foreign players. The team, while strong in the back end, desperately needed firepower from the forward unit and they've been getting it in bunches. Pavel Procházka has lead the way with 5 goals in 6 games supported by Ondrej Tonkovič who has tallied 5 points in only 3 games.
The team looks to extend it's winning streak as they host DaBears and ring in the new year on a high note.
