Royal City Redshift - Royal City Spectra - V7E1: Budding Start Makes Competitive Debut
The Royal City Redshift laid their cards on the table and went all-in on Croatian goaltender prospect Zdravko Golem whom has been nicknamed "My Precious" by players, management and fans due to the faith the franchise has in him and his last name in relation to the famous Golem in Lord of the Rings. With an $80,000,000 price tag, there certainly is a lot of pressure on the young goalkeeper purchased when he was 15 - now 16. Fans got a first glimpse of what is in store when he made is professional/competitive debut on the road against Flying Piggies, a fellow Ontario club. Nearly 5,000 fans were in attendance, many of whom were Reds' fans making the drive to see the game, and the Redshift didn't disappoint securing a 7-1 win for the youngster in net.
"It was important for him to get his feet wet this season. We've been going younger and faster this year and it only makes sense to mirror that in goal. We wanted to shield him from league leaders as well as a large crowd. Monday was a perfect game for just such an occasion" said canucks357.
The young goalie stopped 13 of the 14 shots directed his way with the loan blemish being a nice shot from the faceoff circle to his left.
"It was very much good to play first game. I very much enjoy hockey. Team very good and do good job. I look forward to more stopping pucks. Canada very nice. This great time. My English not so good" said the young goalie.
Time will tell how he develops but if the long-term scouting report on him is accurate, he will be a leading goaltender in the future Canadian leagues. No pressure for a kid who just got his driver's license...
