Season 15 Ends. The Intrepid Win The Cup!!
Cleveland Intrepid† - Intrepid Demoted, Light up League III. Coach replaced.
Season 16 was supposed to be an accomplishment. After winning the Cup in Season 15 the Cleveland Intrepid were promoted to league II. They quickly proved that they didn't belong with the big boys. After posting a 6-30-2 record, good enough for 17th place, they were promptly demoted back to league III. To make matter worse coach Sidney Lawler could not come to terms with management and left the team for greener pastures 5 games into season 17.
But all was not lost. Veteran assistant coach Ryan Zeigler was promoted to head coach. A position he has wanted for a long time.
"I've waited a long time for this. I'm just going to make the best of it. I learned a lot from coach Bastrzyk during our cup run and a lot from the competition we faced in league II. I also want to wish Coach Lawler the best in his new gig. He was a good coach."
The fact that Zeigler mentioned storied coach Bastyzyk brought feelings of nostalgia to the crowd. With good reason. The Intrepid have vaulted to the top of the standings . posting a 7-0 record early in the season, outscoring their opponents 129-7. Since Zeigler took over just two games ago there were some line up changes to tweak scoring and go along with his outgoing personality. He promoted winger Devon "Suggy Bear" Suggs and D-man Darrell "Haji" Hodges to the top line. Suggs has not disappointed, working with future hall of famer Kadeem Garvey, he has leads the team in goals and points. Hodges leads the team in defensive scoring.
"I just try to get better every time I hit the ice," Said Suggs.
"He's really taken the bull by the horns. We've got great chemistry," Said Captain Garvey.
"He lead our team in scoring during our season 15 Cup run and he lead our team in scoring last year, during a truly awful campaign. He works hard and can score goals. That's why we drafted him years ago. It's paying major dividends," said coach Zeigler of Suggs.
The way the Intrepid have dominated teams so far in this season it seems another Cup is in their future.
Other bright spots on the team have been 2nd line defenseman Pat Bowe and 2nd year phenom goalie Aiden "Rocky" Roxburgh, who has posted a 3-0 record and a .941 save percentage with one shutout already.
