Icemen† - ICEMEN SIGN 'Z-MAN the D-MAN'
The Icemen picked up defenseman Zoard "Z man the D man" Demeter from Sudi Hungarokori Egylet of the Hungarian I.1 league on Wednesday.
Icemen coach Roman Heath called Demeter a "real character player" who will be a "stabilizing factor" on the team's defensive unit. Zoard Demeter will sure to be a fan favourite and was handed the Zman the DMan moniker by Icemen Captain Bonifac Papp who also hails from Hungary.
"He competes night in and night out, and we really felt it was important to get him in the mix for this season," said Heath. "He'll be a real cog in our defensive unit and he compliments everyone well. We're happy to have him signed."
Heath said he believes Demeter can play different roles for the Icemen and will fit in nicely with the defensive unit.
The Icemen also placed Stepan Semerad on the Market today causing coach Heath to have to juggle the lines. "I've got an eclectic mix of nationalities on my squad," said Heath. "My new plan is to pair up the Czech Novotny brothers, newly aquired Zman on the top line with his Hungarian counterpart Jozsef Nagy, Slovak's Urban and Kluvanec and my good ole' Canadian grinders Barness and Francis on the 4th line."
The Icemen are in a battle for top spot in league IV 1 and hope these changes on defense continue to keep the shot count down on sophomore goalie Martin Elsner.
Heath did say he was happy with the way the team has been playing of late but wouldn't rule out making changes to the line up or the roster in the coming days or weeks if he felt the team needed a shake up.
