New Arena
The Portagers have moved into their new home on top of Barsky's Hill this week. it was determined that the facility at Rabbit Lake could not be sustained, especially when spring is to arrive. A partnership has been established between the team and the volunteer board for the Rideout Community Club. The infrastructure from Rabbit Lake was moved straight to the property at the Club and has turned the once outdoor recreational facility into a world-class venue.
Goalie For Sale
NWO Portagers' founding goalie Janis Jonitis has been put on the market. "He has been a solid 26 rating for some time now and we have other options in net that have been progressing at a higher rate than him." Explained coachb during practise today. "Bone-itis has been a real help to our young guys on this team. We wish him all the best"
Tournament News
The boys entered another tournament (max 30) last week. They were placed in an extremely competitive pool but managed to pull off 2 wins in the first 2 games. After Mr. Dinkel's 4-0 shutout win against Slovakia's Vancouver Canucks 2010 team (?) Portagers' rookie center Eric Laberge was named first star for his 3 point performance. Coming up this Thursday is a game against France's Gothiches. Nice pink jerseys, guys...
'B' Squad
Friendly matches have been against some pretty tough teams these days. "It's like we're being punished" panted Portagers' new arrival Ted Meyers after an 11-0 loss to the Atikokan Arsenal on Sunday. "Only the strong survive. I want to see who's going to be left standing. I only want hard-cores to wear the Canoehead jersey," explained coachb after the game.
Portagers Still Cream of the Canadian League IV.11 Crop
"A strong defensive core, chemistry and youth
are the ingredients that have solidified this team."
commented star Canadian defenseman Dustin Roth after practise today. Hopes are high on the team. The stands are filling up fast and fans want a Championship. "if we don't win it all this year, it will be a disappointment," explained coachb.
