Calgary Beavers† - Wolfpack Watch
The Shawnessy Wolfpack have been a busy team over the past couple of weeks. There have been some big wins, and important wins over Kicesie, to end the first half of the season and Sans Antonios Stars, Cougars de Montréal to start the 2nd half of the season. With these wins, they have moved themselves into a tie for 2nd place in the league with Kicesie, but are ahead on goal differential. They still sit 6 pts back of the Warriors for 1st in the league, but with just under half the season remaining, anything can happen.
The Wolfpack Arena had been changed as well, improving the seating from 800 people to 1600 screaming fans. JBrady had this statement about the improvements, "We were having a lot of fans come out, and we knew there were more fans who were wanting to come down and see the improvements the team has made over this year. As our team is getting better and better, there was a lot more talk about them, and the season ticket holders have been encouraging friends and family to come down and enjoy the show that we are putting on the ice. The first few games have shown us there we have great support in this city, and will need to look at more expansion in the near future.
In the play front, the Wolfpack have been busy making some deals. Bringing in a new goalie in Ivan Měšťánek, and a new right defense Róbert Hargaš. They were a little soft on the right side and needed one more top d man to have a solid top 4, which they now have. With Ivan Měšťánek, they improve their already good goal tending and will be able to continue their climb up the league standings. They have also tried moving some players who were the first to the team to free up some salary and player numbers.
The rest of the team is continue their stellar play with Ralf Pollmann and Bo Ellingsen in the top 10 in points, and goals. Stefen Engels is tied for most points per game, and is making his way towards the top 10 as well. Rounding out the big top line are the two defense men, Ferdinand Závodský and Kazimír Chovanec, Ferdinand is 4th in league scoring and Kazimir 11th. The second line is chipping in with goals as well, averaging just over 2 pts per game per player, which has helped take the checking off the 1st line and allow them to roll a little more.
It looks like teams have been noticing the changes the Wolfpack have been making as teams have started beefing up their rosters, and it looks like a power struggle could emerge in the league, not normally seen in division IV leagues. With the Blakhawks, Mighty Ducks Of Stoneham and North Bay Wonders improving already strong teams, and brampton blitz and Les Scorpions m aking vast improvements to their teams, the 2nd half of the season will be very interesting.
