Huggy Bears† - Huggy Bears Management Manages Expectations With Season Opener
In it's inaugural season, the Huggy Bears captured the III.7 playoff championship, and with it spot in league II.2 for season 4. Team management has been careful to hedge expectations heading into this season.
The most striking comment came from head coach Klement Mlcoch who, when asked about his teams prospects for the season, said, "From a talent standpoint, it's going to be a struggle. We just took a giant step up the ladder and I'm not entirely sure we were prepared for it."
His comments have caused quite a stir in the local media with some suggesting the Mlcoch is coaching scared. General Manager Bruno Sena attempted to be more diplomatic in running damage control the following day.
"I think what Klem was commenting on was that with increased competition come decreased expectations," Sena responded during a media conference call on Tuesday.
"Our goal since we came in last season has been to build a solid base for the organization through player and internal development. We're going to continue to put down the building blocks for a successful future. What that means in terms of this season is up to you guys."
Almost all preseason prognostications have the Huggy Bears finishing in the bottom four, and with that brings the real possibility of demotion. After 2 games, the Huggy Bears surprised and captured it's first II.2 win with a 5-3 victory over the Delirium Triggers.
The game featured the raising of the III.7 playoff championship banner in front of a raucous home crowd, making it hard to imagine the fans managing their expectations the same way team management is.
