Kanada Royal City Redshift - Gryph News - Vol 3 Issue 15: Return of Gryph News & Playoff Outlook

Gryph News has taken a leave of absence lately. Due to the massive hemorrhaging of funds by the Gryphon organization the press releases were suspended during the mid part of the season to save money.

"We wanted to redirect funds to aspects of the club that would help improve the team immediately. We also felt that a press ban would give the players some privacy and reduce the pressure of playing in the big league" said manager Mark Clode.

But now Gryph News has returned, and on the agenda is the next couple weeks of Gryphon hockey.

Guelph has had a strong season thus far, being as high as first and currently sits sixth. There are four games remaining and Guelph has a 3 point lead on 9th place.

"We lost a couple games in the second half that we needed to win, plain and simple. Because of those losses we are now fighting for a playoff spot and not home-ice advantage in the playoffs. That is just how good leagues like this go, you take a night or two off and you put yourself in an unfavourable position. We had a couple good streaks going but have also lots a few too many games in a row now. We need to find consistency in our game. That is the key right now. Fans are slowly coming out more and more even to exhibition games. The arena construction has concluded for this season. Veterans Memorial Arena now holds 2,700 spectators. In a few weeks time there will be new shops and even two restaurants. We hope our fans continue to show their dedication into the Gryphons' fifth season" said Head Coach Stubbs.

The Gryphons will be relying on a veteran presence in the playoffs to help carry them to their end goal, a I.1 title. The likes of Tim Newton, Guy Richard, Teodor Vaverka and others will be relied on heavily to log big minutes and play in critical situations. Thankfully, there is never been more of a core veteran leadership on the Gryphons than now. Twenty-two Gryphon players have heaps of experience and chemistry to help push forward. However look for some youth to make their way into the lineup for a game or two in the playoffs.

"We want to slowly work in some of our young guys. Our experienced guys shine in times like these, but you can't teach experience... you have to live it. And for the players of the future what better time then now" said Captain and leader Guy Richard.

"We have been in the playoffs every year so far. However, for us, the playoffs started a couple weeks ago. I have to do a better job that is for sure. I promise my teammates and fans better performances down the stretch" said goaltending superstar Tim Newton.
