The Raging Pigs† - Playoff Picture Still Unclear: One Game Remains
Raging Pigs players were disappointed after their 6-4 loss today at the hands of the Stoney Creek Saints, but remained upbeat about their chances of making the playoffs.
"We still control our own destiny," said Captain Joe Parlour. "Win and we're in."
"Our goal all season was to make the playoffs. We've battled all season to get ourselves into this position, and we don't intend to let it slip away."
Going into the final game of the season, four teams - The Raging Pigs, Exceleration, Strasbourg Libre Nordique, and Xenons - remain in the hunt for the 7th and 8th seeds in II.3; the top 6 seeds have clinched playoff berths.
Xenons and Strasbourg currently sit tied for 9th with 63 points, one back of Exceleration and two back of the Pigs. They play each other on Wednesday. If the game goes into OT, an OTL is all the Pigs need to clinch a playoff berth. If there is a clean winner, the Pigs need an OTW or W to move on.
Exceleration is in 8th with 64 points. They host the 19th place Beaver Slayers, who were prematurely promoted to division II; they will be relegated to division III next season.
Exceleration seems likely to win and advance to the post-season. The Pigs, however, maintain a 1 point lead over them and with a win will hang onto the 7th seed.
The picture is unclear, but Wednesday's games are sure to be very entertaining.
