Canada Royal City Redshift - Gryph News - Vol 3 Issue 7: Gryphons Continue Strong Play Riding Stellar Performances from Tim Newton

The Guelph Gryphons hosted the Bulldogs de Terrebonne on Friday, the last team in I.1 that was undefeated. Coming into the game the Gryphons knew it would be a battle of the game. Coach Stubbs held a closed door meeting for the 22 players dressing for the game. It would appear the Gryphons were very tactically ready for the match.

The Gryphons would out-shoot the Bulldogs de Terrebonne 33-18 and score a goal a period to go on to win the game 3-1. Newton would stop 17 shots, with the lone blemish coming in the second period when the Gryphons were on the penalty kill. Leading the charge offensively was Gord Ferdinand with a goal and an assist. Antoine Slater had a goal as well but more impressively tossed 8 shots on the Bulldogs de Terrebonne goal.

"We have been working as a team for the past few weeks on our offensive play. Putting more shots on net, shooting to score things like that. I felt today I had a strong offensive game. Teo (Teodor Vaverka) is a premiere player as is Sharpie (Dan Sharp) and they get me the puck. I want to keep putting pucks on net. It is really fun playing with those lads" said Slater after the match.

In league standings the Gryphons are now tied for second, but sit third due to goal differential. Slater has climbed into 11th place with 6 points (3,3) in the six games played thus far. Stealing the spotlight though is Tim Newton, who has a 1.64 GAA and 0.939 sv% in league play.

Once again Veterans Memorial Arena was sold out, and Gryph's across the street was broadcasting the game in 3D. After the game, Wesley Ingelthorpe made a surprise appearance to meet some fans who weren't fortunate enough to get tickets. Rumour has it that a Gryphon player will visit Gryphs after each home game to sign autographs for fans who could not get their hands on tickets.
