ICEMEN SHAKING UP TEAM DURING SEASON FOUR FINALS
The Icemen have decided to make big changes to the team on the eve of the Season 4 IV.1 Championship Final that sees them facing off with the number two ranked Qc Nordiques.
GM Shane Archambault has announced that long time Icemen captain and all-time franchise point leader Bonifac Papp will be dealt immediately following the second game of the finals. "I decided to announce Papp’s impending departure today to help motivate the team and our captain to go out and win the Championship in two games so Papp can hoist the trophy high following his final game in an Icemen jersey.”
Archambault also announced that prior to the puck drop of today’s game Papp’s jersey will be hoisted to the rafters in the Icedome.
The Icemen will also be parting ways with five other players in moves that should make Don Cherry proud. German born Martin Filipp and Corbinian Locher, Lithuanian Domijonas Dunderis, Czech Lucas Lacl and Swiss native Fabian Hausherr have all been told to pack their bags as the team makes room for some homegrown Canadian talent that has arrived from the academy.
The Icemen did signal they aren’t afraid to search the world over for talent today though as they also acquired some solid young prospect forwards in Czech Josef Šup and Estonian Heikko Pismennoi.
These moves will remove a fair chunk of the Icemen's offence, with the departing Papp leading the team again this season. "We're just going to have to find other ways to manufacture offence," said Icemen coach Roman Heath.
A replacement for Papp as team captain will be announced before the first regular season game next season.
