Royal City Redshift - National Cup
The Gryphons traveled to Collisé Van Houtte where they were downed in overtime by the Bulldogs de Terrebonne 6-5. The loss is one that will definitely hurt the Gryphons as they were very confident in their chances for a National Cup Title.
For the second day in a row a tactical blunder occurred. The fourth line of the Gryphons did not see action despite the intentions of the manager. There will most certainly be a Manager-Coach meeting on the trip back to the Gryphon Nest for tomorrow's home game.
The game was filled with disappointing performances. Newton did not have a strong game in net, and could have make a few key saves to help his team win. Giving up only 26 shots and scoring 5 goals should result in a win more times then not.
The top line of Ebbrell Vaverka and Kennedy combined for 3 points, leaving the bulk of the scoring duties to the second line of Ingelthore, Slater and Sharp. The third line of Doherty Neil and Kite were a -2 on the night and will surely get a word or two on defensive coverage.
With the National Cup run officially the Gryphons can now focus on securing 1st place in III.7 and earning a promotion to II.2. They are the heavy favourites in the league and shall be expected to secure a title. With Newton's lackluster performance in the years biggest game, look for Ian Garnett to get his first career league start on Wednesday. Garnett has yet to play outside of a friendly match and the 15 year old has practiced hard and waited patiently for his chance. Newton has been a steady goaltender through franchise history, starting nearly all games for the Gryphons, but look for him to get a well deserved day off and a chance to recuperate from the rough outing today.
As far as further line up changes, Newell's progress has been better than anticipated. He is ready for action tomorrow but look for him to be fully cleared to play and into the lineup after the weekend. While the Gryphons went 2/7 on the PP the likes of Peake and Newell would have certainly helped that category. Peake is still a week or two away from recovery and expect Ingelthore to continue to see time on the PP in his absence.
