Canada Royal City Redshift - Gryph News - Vol 2 Issue 7: Gryphons Improve to 6-0 on the Season with a yet another 5-2 Victory

The Guelph Gryphons hosted HK Josavica in front of yet another full house. 1977 screaming fans packed Veterans Memorial Arena to watch the game, adding to Canada's largest average attendance.

"It really is something special. The commitment these fans have for the club. Every time I come to the rink it renders me speechless. We are very fortunate to have such a following and our players really do enjoy the admiration and commitment of Gryphon fans" said Mark Clode who has been Head Manager for some time. Many credit Clode with marketing the team to perfection but Clode just replies "the players are what sells the product. They make my job easy in that regard."

One of the players who fans love to watch is Tim Newton. Newton has been selected to represent team Canada and has even been featured in a newspaper in Loria Italy, Guelph's sister city.

"We love watching Tim play. He is just so good. I want to wish him the best of luck with team Canada" said 6 year old Samantha who was one of four lucky winners who get to spend a day with a Gryphon. "When I get older I want to be a goalie just like Tim... except on a girls team because these guys shoot too hard." Newton had a chuckle in the background after that comment.

As far as the results on the ice, Newton stopped 19 of 21 shots and the Gryphon powerplay went 2/5 on the night en route to the 5-2 victory. Maurice Ebbrell continued his claim to stay on the top line with two goals on the night, helped by Matt Kennedy's 3 assists. Jacob Neil and Matt Sheringham also added a goal and an assist to help with the offence.

"We're obviously very pleased with the start to this season. A perfect six for six is something special but we can't get too confident. There are a lot of tough teams in this league and many would argue we have yet to play the best of them" said Captain Guy Richard. "We need to maintain our focus and battle night in and night out to assert ourselves as a top club in the nation."

The Gryphons now take part in the second weekend of the HF Boards tournament which they will play a home and home with Flying Bartlebys before traveling for their next league game at Shyva. The Gryphons will be sporting their special edition HF Boards home and away jerseys once more for the weekend. The club also announced that they will wear their third jersey for the first time competitively against their rival Kitchener Canucks on the 23rd of December.
