Canada Bow Valley Buccaneers† - Buccs Bounty - Season 4 Issue 3 - Power Rankings

The writers at Buccs Bounty have decided this week to release this seasons first power rankings. With 9 games played by all teams, a large enough sample has been seen to determine what teams have been the powerhouses and which teams may be hanging onto dear life. With 5 teams so far not recording a win, some teams have been reaping the rewards of facing teams that have no business being in the league. This article should clear up who is looking like the true champions of League III.2 after 3 weeks of play.

1. Hunters de Baskatong
They have had the hardest schedule to date, playing 5 playoff teams so far, yet are still tied for first in the league. Having a goalie like Bill Tessier who has a sparkling 1.67 GAA and 3 shutouts also doesn't hurt the best team in league III.2. They came from league II.1, and it is looking like they want to move back on up in a hurry.

2. Actus
Although technically in first place, they are second in power rankings mainly because they have lost to Hunters, and had the easier schedule of the two teams. Both teams have been on another level than the rest of the league so far this year, and you should expect this team to be either 1 or 2 in the power rankings for the rest of the year. They currently have 3 players in the top 10 in scoring, with Tyler Girard leading the league in goals and points, with 13 goals and 18 points in 9 games.

3. Montreal's Canadiens
When you have a defenseman as good as Stan Neil has been (1-17-18, +12), you're going to find yourself winning some key games. When you add in the best penalty kill in the league, this team is looking pretty. The Canadiens has done nothing wrong with the schedule they've been given. They have beat the lowly nonames as well as beat the powerhouse Hunters de Baskatong. They are the only team to not lose in regulation yet this year, and it was very difficult not placing them higher up in the power rankings. Keep winning and we will see them on top very shortly.

4. Ice Monkeys
Besides a goalie controversy that has intensified with a poor outing by their former #1 goalie Inglethorpe on Wednesday, Ice Monkeys have done everything their coaching staff have asked of them. Quietly moving up the standings, we should probably see the Ice monkey's in 4th in the standings with another 2 easy games ahead for them.

5. Montreal Canadien
Blessed with an easy first 2 weeks, the Canadien were riding high and up at the top of most statistical categories, with 4 players with 15 or more points already. But with 2 of the last 4 games being against Actus and Hunters, the Canadien are starting to show their true colours as a solid second tier squad that is just one or two steps away from competing with the big dogs.

6. Fedidit Rangers
They are 4th in the League, but have only faced one playoff team so far and lost 4-1. Doing pretty much as well as they could do against the weaker teams in the league, just hasn't proven yet that they should be higher in the power rankings.

7. Toronto Legends
Same case could be made for the Legends as was made for the Rangers. Only have faced one team in the top 8, and are lower than Fedidit since they haven't been as dominant as the Rangers against the weaker teams.

8. Brampton Capitals
Brampton has had a rough start and don't deserve their 11th place ranking. Good games against top teams have gone to waste, and since they are only in 11th place it was just too hard for me to place them higher than 8th. They have the ability to jump a lot higher, and look to see them take advantage of an easier schedule in the upcoming weeks.

9. Bow Valley Buccaneers
Finally seeing some offense out of this group, have scored 6.5 gpg in the last 4. Are slowing pushing their way back to contention after a very tough start, look to see the Buccaneers keep improving as well.

10. Snowbirds
Been very quiet this season, seen only really one good win against Bow Valley, otherwise have been playing very mediocre hockey.

11. Elmira Horse And Buggies
Are in a playoff position right now, but don't expect them to stay for long. The 10-0 loss to Hunters de Baskatong are a sign of things to come as their schedule gets a lot harder in the coming weeks.

12. Kilborn Rangers
Some real bad luck has struck the other Rangers of this league, with their defence just disappearing after having 2 shutouts in a row. They are right around where many predicted them at the beginning of the year, just mediocre and will remain hovering around .500 all year.

13. Brampton Chiefs
Don't let their 9th place standings fool you, 5 of their 6 wins were against teams that haven't won a single game. The other was against the worst active team in the league, the cats. Their free fall from playoff contention is inevitable in the horizon with the way they are playing right now.

14. Schrödinger's Cats
Well, when you don't post your first win until game 8 of the season, you should expect to be at the bottom of the power rankings. Just not enough punch on this team, and they are our pick for last in active managers
