Season 6 - Difficult end of season
Elmira Horse And Buggies† - Buggies dream season a bust
At the beginning of season 6, The Elmira Horse and Buggies were among one of the surprise teams of II.3. Going 7-2 through the first 9 games, the buggies were poised to make a run at the championship for II.3. Now there is a single question that is plaguing the minds of the team's management, fans and players alike:
What went wrong?
"We're a team that has been known to get off to slow starts at the beginning of the seasons," said Ryan Archambault, former captain and third-line centre. "So for us to have that kind of start to the beginning of the season was pretty surprising. We were all thinking, 'this could be our breakout year, we just gotta keep it up.' but I think we got out heads a little too high in the clouds and lost sight of the big picture."
The big picture: Chemistry, sportsmanship, being a team player, staying out of the box ... Dare I continue?
"We weren't taking as many penalties as we were last year," said head coach Isaac Ferraro. "So we've had some improvement, but we still spent an obscene amount of time killing off penalties, and our penalty killing wasn't good at all."
With additions like Bogusz Pankiewicz, the defence is stronger for next season. What about the offence?
"We are in talks with another team to acquire another player, but of course I can't tell you who or what team," said General Manager Victor Barnett.
Sounding like a blockbuster? Some of the players the team has here now were big acquisitions. The problem with the team may be deeper than players.
