Vancouver Jokers HC† - Three Straight Losses for Jokers
With all the changes within the Vancouver Jokers HC over the past week; it shouldn't have been much surprise that the team dropped three straight games to start the week with two league losses and one friendly loss.
The team started the week with a Home lose to Whiters, who are currently sitting 11th in the league standing a few spots ahead of the Jokers.
One would have expected a close and tightly fought game and they would not have been disappointed as the game was won 2-0 by the Whiters with the Jokers unable to slide the biscuit behind Tim Houde. Houde was outstanding stopping all 28 shots that the Jokers fired his way.
Cale Paquette got his first start for the Jokers and looked a bit nervous in his first start allowing two goals on fourteen shots.
The sixteen year old admitted that he was a bit nervous in his first start," The game was a lot faster then I expected and I felt good for most of the game but not getting a lot of action meant it was hard to stay in the game."
"I was nervous to start the game but I think I was able to settle down as the game went along. I thought it was a good first start but in the end we just could solve Houde tonight."
Philip Sandwith opened the scoring for Whiters at the 12:55 mark of the first period and Spencer Polston finished out the scoring for the Whiters.
The Jokers also travel on Monday to Czech Republic to play HC Jokerit Popůvky but was no match for the Czech team.
Paquette got his second straight start in net for the Jokers but only last 20mins as he gave up six goals on eighteen shots before giving way to Star forward Cedric Brule. Brule faired much better as only allowed four goals making tweenty seven saves and had majority of team to joke around after the game with the star forward.
"Now if we could get Brule to cherry pick at the right end we might have been able to keep this game close",commented Second line winger Steve Thibeault.
"Being a bit more serious I though he did a good job but he would have been better used on the first line. It was interesting when they told him between periods that he was going to have to suit up and play net." Laughed Thibeault.
The team end up losing lopsided loss with the final score of 10-0 for the Home team.
The Jokers also lost a close game to Ontario Rifles on the road as the teams battle back and forth during majority of the game
"It was a close game and just could close out the game." commented New acquired Kalle Korhola.
Rifles opened the scoring at 3:28 into the game when Ivo Drobný was able to beat Paquette.
The Jokers came back at 11:40 of the first when Benny Yardy snapped a quick shot past Oskar Rarik and that is how the first period would end with Jokers control majority of the play out shooting the Rifles 12-7 in the period.
The second period again seen the Jokers control the play but could manage to score on Rarik with the Rifle netminder making another 12 saves as the Jokers out shoot the Rifles 12-5 in the second frame.
The Third was wild affair with the Rifles scoring two power play about two minutes a part to blow the game open.
The Jokers didn't waste time trying to get back into the game when 30 second later Kalle Korhola scored the first of his two goals to pull the Jokers within but 13 second later Milton Bäckman put the Rifles back up by two goals.
With about 5 mins left in the game Korhola scored to pull the Jokers back within one but in the final minutes they could not tie the game up to force overtime.
The Vancouver Jokers HC will look to stop the three game skid when they fly to France to play Stade Poitevin Hockey.
The teams seem to be closely matched and we expect a very close game.
