(The following is an audio tape from last night's press conference following the Blazer's 1-11 loss to Slovakian team Slovan Plovdiv.)

Reporter - "What is your reaction to Leach's (Blazer defenceman Will Leach) stick to the face of (Plovdiv's) (Holger) Tissen?"

Roedb - <chuckling> "Yeah, that's Willie! He just doesn't back down. We felt that their guy really got his shoulder up when he hit Willie there and Willie just turned around and showed that he is not to be intimidated."

Reporter - "Yeah but he swung his stick and hit the opponent in the face!"

Roedb - "Oh give me a &Q$^#ing break!! He didn't, 'swing his stick' he was just slashing him. You know, like...slashing him in the neck! Did you see the replay? I mean it's obvious! Willie is aiming for the guy's neck, his stick ricochets off the guys shoulder pad and inadvertently hits him in the eye or whatever! It should have been a slashing minor at most. It was just a slash!"
