- NWO Portagers - CDN League IV.11 Champs! -

The boys won game 2 of the league championship series in a shootout to claim the title vs the New Hawks. 15-year-old Romanian rookie defenseman Emilian Preda scored the winning goal in the shootout. "I love this country! I never score in shoot-out before. I always sit on bench. ah ah aaah!"

The boys all wore their vampire fangs in honor of their unexpected hero during the after-party at the Rideout Community Club. "We weren't really expecting to win game 2. Coach put on our 'B' squad for the game and our 3rd string goalie in hopes of bringing the series home for game 3." Explained Portagers coach Day. "They threw us to the wolves, but we handled ourselves pretty well out there." said Canadian rookie winger Leon Lewis after his 2 goal championship-winning performance.

This now means that the boys move up to a tier-3 league for next season. "I think we have a solid core of great, young guys and more depth than I know what to do with" said coachb during 'Hockey Day in Canada' festivities last weekend. "I think we'll hold our own wherever we go, but I wouldn't expect the moon and stars just yet."

Club Renos

Construction has begun on a multifunctional facility at the Rideout Community Club. "Many have questioned the expense but the owners are determined to bring an unequalled hockey experience to the fans that support us." explained coachb "We are a small market but this team packs 'em in because they win games. Now that we have a couple trophies hanging in the rafters, we have to kick it up a notch."

Too many cooks in the kitchen

Daniel Swoboda drew the shortest straw and was put on the market and sold to a Latvian team recently. "He was a solid puck-stopper for us. He just drew the shortest straw. Seriously. That's how we did it." said Portagers' Swiss stopper Gunter Dinkel.
