Канада Royal City Redshift - Royal City Spectra - V2E2: Radosta Earns His Stripes as Redshift Claim League Supremacy

The Royal City Redshift claimed II.4's top honours finishing with 35 wins and 3 overtime/shootout losses totaling 108 points. Many players had breakout seasons. Thirty players saw ten or more games including many young prospects getting their first real test in competitive action.

Of course there were the fixtures in the lineup. Tim Newton had another banner year, Antoine Slater claimed the scoring title with 65 points, 8 more than his closest competitor. Maximilián Šoltys and Rod McVeigh notched the most powerplay goals in the season with 9 - a remarkable accomplishment for Rod having only played in 10 games thanks to the lineup rotation and some injury problems.

However, when the dust had settled, there was one real standout on the team, goaltender Vlastimil Radosta.

"We acquired Radosta as a 15 year old, six seasons ago. He was in our long-term plans as a bone fide third goalie. However, with five seasons and 5 regular seasons games under his belt, management decided now was as good of time as ever to give him a shot, and I agreed" said canucks357.

The decision certainly paid off, Radosta took home the league's top goalie award posting a 0.95 GAA, 0.931 sv% and 6 shutouts. Some could argue coaches sheltered him from the top offensive teams, but whatever the argument is, Radosta has proven he is ready.

"I've spent many years training here. It has been a long road for me. This is a great honour to be rewarded for this effort" said Radosta who will be sending his prize money back to the Czech Republic to build an arena in his home town.

"It is Redshift policy that all prize money made by individual players is distributed every player on the team, even those who did not play a game. No player can accomplish anything on their own. In the case of Radosta, we decided that this should be an exception. Everyone agreed" said captain Braden Debeau. "He's an exceptional young goaltender. Has a good brain on his shoulders. He's smart. Not the biggest guy in the net, but keeps it simple and has confidence in his teammates to do their job. It's all you can ask of a goalie."

Radosta's purchase six seasons ago for half a million dollars (unconfirmed source) has certainly paid off. He is slowly gaining experience. In addition to this, bookies just rated him at a value of "800", still a ways behind Garnett and Newton, but Radosta certainly has age and potential on his side.

"It's certainly not a issue you don't want to have. We had three goalies this year and we could play any of them on any given night. All three got equal minutes and they performed admirably. We had hoped to get all three into the prize money distribution, but Garnett fell short. He had much of the tougher games in his rotation and played well. We can't complain with anyone's performances, especially our goaltenders. We also increased the roles of several youngsters. Rod McVeigh certainly will get a more important role next season given the strides he made this season. The problem then becomes, who do we move out of center ice!? We have 6 more-than-capable centermen and even some wingers who can fill in when needed. I guess this is what you'd call #FWP for those of you who a twitter fanatics" joked head coach Maximo Willson.

From here the Redshift will face Drummondville in the first round. They have been a formidable foe and always played tough. They've also played really well down the stretch, slowly climbing in the standings. Redshift management would not comment what goaltender would see action tomorrow in Game 1.
