The team is struggling to find their new identity. Many players are in between true roles due to poor previous skill development. Management is trying to find key players to bring the team together. The coaching staff is trying to adjust to each other. But, that is life for expansion teams.

"The first season is always hardest," said the team manager. "You come in with a plan based on the information you have, only to find the information is at best partial wrong. Everything gets adjusted. So far, on the whole the plan remains intact."

Well spoken words. But, fans aren't watching the words. They are watching the team. And, there is good news on several fronts. The River Rats are being beaten by small margins in international play, and in regular league play. They have struggled out of the League basement, avoiding a relegation match. Fan favorites are even starting to emerge among the players. All of this keeps fans excited, and coming through the gate.
