Round one of this season's National Cup is over. How did our league do?


TAGĪĪĪL!!! v. Nuclear Unicorns (3:4)
The only non-intraleague game to end in a win, the Nuclear Unicorns easily handled TAGĪĪĪL!!!. The Nuclear Unicorns seemed to be running away with the game when they were up 0:3 halfway through the game, but a power play goal scored by TAGĪĪĪL!!!'s Freddy Montanez started a late rally. Despite their efforts to come within one goal of the Nuclear Unicorns, TAGĪĪĪL!!! just couldn't come back from their three goal deficit. The Nuclear Unicorns move on to play a team from Pot 1, where they will most likely be eliminated.

wings v. Beukes (3:4)
The game between the wings and the Beukes was as back and forth as a tennis match. Both teams enjoyed holding the lead for periods of time, but two third period goals by the Beukes gave them the final lead and the win. With 9:59 left in the third, the lone power play goal of the game was scored by the Beukes' Edward Hand, to tie the at three goals a piece. Theodore Griffiths sealed the wings fate by scoring the game winner with 5:56 left in the game.

Stonewood v. West Sound Warriors (2:4)
One of the two intraleague games this round, the West Sound Warriors ran away with it. They gained lead 13:02 into the game with a Randall Tang goal on Stonewood's Arnold Fuentes. The West Sound Warriors scored three more unanswered goals before Stonewood was able to get a tally. The two goals scored by Stonewood's Virgil Bowling were valiant efforts, but ultimately in vain. The West Sound Warriors came away with the win and advance to round two.

Brahmas v. rock hard flyers (3:6)
The second of two intraleague games, the Brahmas lost this game in the first period. Due to a lack of effort and a shoddy power play letting in two short-handed goals the Brahmas dug themselves a three goal hole that they couldn't get out of. Despite very disciplined play by the Brahmas, the rock hard flyers walked all over them. Fabian Dunn of the rock hard flyers was able get himself a hat-trick as they cruised passed round one of the National Cup.

Moose Jaw Elephants v. FatBoySwag (2:5)
The Moose Jaw Elephants were not short on effort as they tried to tackle FatBoySwag of III.11, but that effort wasn't enough. They were dominated in every area of play. FatBoySwag managed to out shoot the Moose Jaw Elephants 47 to 19 and were two for five on the power play while remaining perfect on the penalty kill. Hopefully this much effort early in the new season doesn't hurt the Moose Jaw Elephants' league standings later on.
