Brisbane Stars† - Goalie Issues: Whelan Calls Down The Thunder
Brisbane - Netminder Devon Whelan through down the gauntlet today, making it clear to coaches and team members alike that he is going to challenge Daniel Lehmbacher for the starting goalie position on the Brisbane Stars.
Whelan and Lehmbacher have been the goaltending tandem since season 2 and have, until now, managed to work well together. Whelan, in a press conference today expressed how he's ready to take over the starting roll.
"I have a lot of respect for Daniel (Lehmbacher), but it's time I got a shot at the top job", Whelan said in front of a packed out press conference today. "I have confidence that this team can compete this coming season and plan to be a large part of that", he went on to say.
Lehmacher is 25-20-4-1 (win-loss-draw-OTL) in his 61 games played over the previous 2 season putting up an 87.04 Sv% and 3.32 GAA.
In that same time Whelan has played 29 games, going 5-11-1-0 with 84.47 Sv% and 4.07 GAA.
Note: Games Played includes all games played regardless of TOI.
Lehmbacher was unavailable for questions today.
