With two games remaining in the season, the Vancouver Giants have finally clinched a playoff berth in the tough II.2 league. The Giants did this following a great week, grabbing 8 of 9 points in the week, and moving into a top 4 playoff position with two games remaining. This included a huge win over Classic on Wednesday 5-3 and an overtime win over the former first place Falcon on Friday 2-1. At 70 points, the Giants are 6 points behind the leaders Incredible Foes, 5 behind Falcon, and 4 behind Drunken Monkeys. All the Giants are thinking about now is clinching home ice for the first round. “We haven’t hosted a playoff series since our first season, we need to give our great fans a chance to see more than one game this playoffs.” said head coach Yannick Abrahams.

Speaking of great fans, the Vancouver crowd was given a treat for their loyal support, as the General Manager of Team Canada gave Pacific Coliseum the honour of hosting the friendly between Canada and Slovakia last Saturday. As they have done all year for the Giants, they sold out the building and saw history being made, as Canada beat Slovakia 4-3, arguably the biggest win in Team Canada history.

Back to Giants news, the club made one of their biggest purchases in team history three weeks ago, adding Romanian forward Silviu Penciu to their lineup. This addition automatically made him the highest overall player on the Giants by over 20 overall points. At only 16 years old, the Giants are hoping to turn him into a superstar, and are hoping to add him to the Romanian national team roster within a couple of seasons. In broken English, Penciu said after his first game “It will take me some time to adjust to this Canadian game, but I am ready to become a key role in this Giants team.”
