Канада Royal City Redshift - Gryph News - Vol 1 Issue 11: Gryphons Make Success of Trip to Germany

The Guelph Gryphons started their reserve squad against German outfit Peacock Athletic today in Germany. The reserve squad had a lot to prove as many of the youngsters were looking to crack the big club's lineup.

The game was what you could call a goaltenders duel. Both goalies made save after save and gave up a combined 3 goals on 56 shots.

"Obviously I am happy with my performance. It is never easy to play on a travel day but these are the type of games where you need to step up if you want to make a case for more ice time. I felt the guys played really well in front of me and let me see as much as they could through the traffic. I'm not sure how much more playing time I will get between here and playoffs so I have to take advantage of each opportunity I get. Newts has been playing well and he deserves to be leading the charge for promotion. All I can do is worry about how I can help the club win and tonight I think I did my part" said goaltender Ian Garnett who was named the first star stopping 21 of the 22 shots he faced.

Nineteen year old Dionýz Žufka, who joined the club in August, talked after the game about getting the winning goal. "We are in a race now be it for league points or team rating. Playing on a team ranked 15th in the nation is a huge honour and I am thrilled to have contributed on the scoreboard tonight. It is really a special feeling to have been able to help the team climb up the rankings."

After the game, the Gryphons were treated with a surprised appearance by German Pro Kyle Helms. President and CEO canucks357 and Helms go way back to their days of playing and wanted his young club to get to meet the EV Ravensburg Tower Stars forward.

The Gryphons now travel back to Canada for Friday's match when they host the mighty cats. A big crowd is anticipated as Ebbrell could once again reach another milestone... this time his 50th goal.

In other team news, The Gryphon Nest is in its final phase of construction with the last set of stand's construction started yesterday. The final phase of arena construction this season will bring the capacity of The Gryphon Nest to 2000 fans. It is anticipated that this will support the club through the season and into the playoffs. Should the Gryphons go deep in the playoffs as planned, there is likely to be some hype about tickets as the rink will likely be sold out for the final stages of league playoff play.

Playoff tickets go on sale at the end of the season. You can purchase tickets for all rounds immediately following the game at The Gryphon Nest on November 4th.
