Канада Royal City Redshift - Gryph News - Vol 1 Issue 14: Gryphons Earn 97th Point on the Road in Convincing Fashion; Ebbrell Still Looking for 50th Goal

The Guelph Gryphons traveled to play Bélisarius at the Garda Center in front of a sold out crowd of 400. The Gryphons dominated for much of the match as Bélisarius' goaltender, Dan Stamp, was called upon numerous times to make several key saves. Tim Newton on the other hand, did not perform up to his normal high standards. The game saw the Gryphons limit the opposing team to 8 shots, 2 shots in the first half of the game. Despite this sound defensive play, Bélisarius still scored on their first 2 shots of the game, the 2nd shot coming 4:23 into the second period.

"Obviously my numbers today are not ones to be pleased with. I thought I felt great out there but at the same time there were some tough breaks. I still don't believe the second goal was across the line but they think otherwise. Regardless, we got the win and that is all that matters in the end" said Newton after the match.

David Peake was the star of the game, contributing 4 points on the 6 goals (2G, 2A) and leading the charge offensively. "I thought we played another sound road game. We battled hard and made sure we took care of our own end first. Coach Stubbs is very adamant about the defensive zone as he should be. We have developed a very strict system and we are all committed to it. I think that this is what people should focus on, not individual efforts" said Peake after the match. Peake and his linemates Sharp and Slater were a combined +9 on the night with 8 points. Teodor Vaverka scored the second goal on the powerplay while Inglethorpe scored the opener.

"I think our line worked hard tonight. Coach Stubbs moved Newell to my line and moved Palmsy (Ben Palmer) to the Peake line. I think Newell really compliments our chemistry here. He is a great passer and has a knack for getting guys the puck. He is solely responsible for setting up my goal and I'm pleased to have him on our line" said Inglethorpe of the recent change of linemates. "I'm still not sure how Turns (Edward Turnbull) feels though," chuckled Inglethorpe, "he seems to have to skate harder to keep up with Ian's quick puck movement."

The Gryphons are now largely in command of the league and with a win on Wednesday night at home, they can clinch first place in III.7 with 3 games remaining. In other related news, Maurice Ebbrell is still looking for his 50th goal. After getting his 100th career point Ebbrell has been stuck at 49 goals now for a game or two. Look for him to shed the monkey from his back at home on Wednesday night in front of a large crowd at The Gryphon Nest.

This week's friendly matchup is featuring a home and home with Minnesota's Elk River Wizards. The Wizards are a recently founded franchise and have been making great strides to be a dominant hockey club. The Gryphs will travel to Minnesota for Tuesday's match and will host the second of the two games on Thursday at The Gryphon Nest.

In other league news, the Kitchener Canucks won a close game 5-4 at home over NORDIKS moving them into second spot in the league. Both NORDIKS and the Canucks are two teams the Gryphons would rather not face until the league finals so finishing atop the standings will hopefully ensure that.
