Канада Royal City Redshift - Gryph News - Vol 1 Issue 21: Gryphons Skate to a Draw with rival Halifax Eagles

The Guelph Gryphons skated at home to a 6-6 draw with the visiting Halifax Eagles. The game was played in front of a nearly half-filled Gryphon Nest with just over 850 spectators on hand to watch the two rivals clash once more.

The Gryphons took a one goal lead three times in the first period but couldn't hold on to it each time. After the Eagles potted 2 to take a 4-3 lead the Gryphons responded with 2 more goals of their own taking the lead 5-4. Two more goals by the Eagles and the Gryphons were down 6-5 with just over 10 minutes left. With under 9 minutes left Matthew Cherry of the Eagles took a slashing penalty and the Gryphons put their powerplay to work. Going 0-2 earlier in the night, Steven Upson buried the late goal to tie it at 6-6 with only seven and a half minutes to play.

The game did not feature the usual overtime or shootout as the teams wanted to focus on the final league game of the season. "I think tonight was lots of fun. The lads played hard and it was fun to watch. Anytime you get two good clubs together with guys trying to prove themselves you should get a good game. I hope next time we get a lead we keep it and don't continue the sea-saw battle that went on all game today but the fans likely enjoyed it nonetheless" said manager Mark Clode.

"I was happy to get the goal there at the end. We played hard all game, and we deserved at least a tie. I mean the shots were 36-34 and it was so back and forth. It was definitely an exciting game. I think everyone played well and I look forward to battling again come Thursday" said goalscorer who had a goal and 3 shots on the night.

President and CEO of the Eagles, Stan7777, had some comments on the game:
"Harsley's line is really clicking heading into the playoffs. The boys didn't really put out a big effort especially in the defensive zone. Pavy was terrible in goal. His worst game this season. A sieve would have stopped more pucks. Playing on the road before a good crowd of loyal fans meant we were in trouble. I feel we were fortunate to come out with a tie. Players are getting cut if this level of play continues, a very disappointing effort overall. The PP the only bright spot with 3 goal. Pach was outstanding netting a hatty and 4 points. For a guy who isn't considered to have a big shot he's very effective. Samuals has clearly earned the start for the playoffs between the pipes. I can't stomach poor goalie games. Pavy has to many! I'll be happy to see the end of a long regular season tomorrow. Anything less than the championship is unacceptable with this teams balance and depth. We have 10 of the top 19 scorers in the league and the number 1 and 2 goalies. Samuals GAA is 0.83 and a 4 time allstar in 17 starts. We like our chances."

This being said the Gryphons stay at home for their last home game of the season against Team noname 12870. Gryphons playoff tickets will be sold after the game. Come and enjoy the last regular season home game of the year as the Gryphons raise their first banner to the top of The Gryphon Nest rafters!
