Rockwall Rangers† - Rockwall Ranger's Post-Game Press Conference 22-12-2011
Transcript from Rockwall Ranger’s Post-Game Press Conference at the Coors Light Coliseum (22-12-2011 after a 18-0 Loss versus Yelloshirt in a friendly).
(General Manager Nicholas Nix)
Good evening, while this is not the outcome we expected it is however what has come to be reality for today at least. Aside from that and has been said in these past press conferenceshe Nix Sports Group has sought further the development of the Rockwall Center, and as President and General Manager I am proud to announce the expansion of the Rockwall Center by the Saturday to become an 800 seat arena, with an improved Training Facility, Regeneration Facility, Human Resources and Economic Department, Education Center, Sports Academy, and Medical Center. This initiative taken by the Nix Sports Group has not only improved the current facilities for the fans, but also the team as a whole.
First off, I would like to add that Josep Maria Arguelles will be out for 15 days due to a collar bone fracture.
As for now, I would like to give our Coach a chance to speak, Coach Alonso.
Thank you (Coach Alonso)
Q. What was the reason for today’s loss?
A. What wasn’t the reason? Actually there were a lot of bright spots. I don’t ever say we go into any game ever thinking we are going to lose, but today we knew it would be extremely difficult to win, and finishing 18-0 shows that.
Q. What was the thought process behind going defensive early on in the game?
A. We knew that this team was a really good team, doubling our stats in nearly every stat available. So we decided to try and play defense to stop any massive bleeding that may have occurred. Now we know that did not work. 20/20 says we should have went on the offense and we may have scored a goal or two. But like I tell my players a loss is a loss, if we lose by 1 point or 30 points it all goes down the same as another one in the loss column.
Q. Are you proud of the team’s performance today?
A. Overall no, no one could be proud of an 18-0 loss it is a terrible defeat. However, I am proud of what I saw out of some of our players despite the loss.
Q. Like whom?
A. First off Ramon did a good job despite all the shots he was up against an so did Vicente. All of our centers performed well despite the team they were up against, even Agustin on his first day at Center on line 4 got a shot in. If we had been playing offensively they would have had more shots and shots-on-goal.
Q. Will Ramon be staring against the C.H. Isotopes tomorrow?
A. No, will be starting Vicente to give Ramon a bit of a rest.
Q. Is there any question about Sanchez’s performance and where he stands as Capitan?
A. Manuel, is having problems and he knows his position as Capitan is in jeopardy. But again there are no certainties on a team that is finishing 18-0 in a friendly they were trying to win.
Q. What about the playoffs?
A. What's that? Ah -- Playoffs? Don't talk about -- playoffs?! You kidding me?! Playoffs?! I just hope we can win a game! Another game!
Q. Do you think this team can win another game?
A. They better and soon. 2-2 is not the record I am going for. I am not here to lead a .500 team.
Q. Today was a really bad defeat for the Rangers, do you think they will be able to do any good in Friday’s League game.
A. You don't know when it's good or bad. You really don't know, because you don't know what we're trying to do, you guys don't look at the films. You don't know what happened. You really don't know. You think you know, but you don't know. And you never will.
Q. What is an acceptable win/loss percentage for you and the team then?
A. Well, it is a hell of a lot better than .500. There is not an owner in this league that would accept less. The team need to win, it has been losing and it is good at that.
Q. Tonight, was the loss of Arguelles felt tonight?
A. Yes, and no. Yes in that we would have been better off with him, but we would still of been handed a devastating loss, I am glad for him that he was not apart of tonight’s loss. I wish I was not apart of tonight’s loss. All joking aside, I wish him a speedy recovery and we hope to see him back soon.
Q. Is there anything you wish you could have done different in tonight’s game?
A. Yes, win. Yeah there are a lot of things. As for personal reasons I would of like to have come to Canada, the home of hockey, for the first time and got at least one goal in, if not a win. But to go out this way, I just can’t wait till tomorrow night to put all this behind me.
Q. The team will be coming back to a three game homestand, and then one away followed by four games at home again. Do you think this will allow the team to create enough cohesion so that it will be able to become capable of achieving something better than it has recently in the past.
A. I think it will help to be at home a lot, yeah sure. But we still need to work on a team that is able to go into a game as a single body, and not a bunch of individuals. We will try to make more cohesion and see if in January we are finally ready to make our own stand.
Thank you, I will now turn the mic, over to our G.M. (Coach Alonso)
Thank you (G.M. Nix)
I will not be taking any questioning today, but I would like to mention that the team will be rededicating the New Rockwall Center on Saturday Christmas Eve before our game with Brno Warriors. The ceremony will begin at 4:30 PM CET. Doors will open an hour before for non-season ticket holders and at 2:30 CET for season ticket holders.
The Rockwall Rangers have also decided to retire the numbers of five players before the game on Saturday at the Rockwall Center at 5M CET until 5:45 PM CET.
The players’ numbers to be retired are the following.
1. Howard William “Howie” Morenz – Number 7 of the Montreal Candiens, Chicago Black Hawks, New York Rangers.
2. William “Bill” J. Masterton – Number 19 of the Minnesota North Stars.
3. Joseph “Joe” Nieuwendyk – Number 25 of the Calgary Flames, Dallas Stars, New Jersey Devils, Toronto Maple Leafs, Florida Panthers.
4. Nicholas “Nico” Nix – Number 31 of the Rockwall Rangers.
5. Wayne Douglas Gretzky – Number 99 of the Indianapolis Racers, Edmonton Oilers, Los Angeles Kings, St. Louis Blues, New York Rangers.
Players currently with these numbers will have until Friday Night’s game against C.H. Isotopos to use those numbers before they are retired.
Well now we have a plane to catch back to Spain, so we will have to cut this press conference a bit short. Tomorrow we will give more details on the retirement of numbers ceremony set for Saturday.
Thank you and good night. (G.M. Nix)
