Канада Royal City Redshift - Gryph News - Vol 1 Issue 8: The Return of Peake and Newell to the Lineup Sees the Hometown Gryphons Thump Bras meurtris in front of Record Crowd at The Gryphon Nest

There were 1,573 fans on hand to witness the Guelph Gryphons collect their 88th point on the season. The game was close through the first period until the Gryphons blew it wide open in the second and third.

The game featured highlight-reel goals and several bone-jarring hits. However, the true highlight of the game was the return of David Peake to the lineup. Peake and defenceman Ian Newell were out of the lineup for a couple weeks. Today's game saw them both return to action, and Peake picked up right where he left off. Peake was solely responsible for the success of the Gryphon's powerplay which went 3 for 5. He was in on all three goals. He assisted Richard's PPG 3 minutes in and followed up with an assist on Slater's goal 5 on 5 at the end of the first. The following 25 minutes was a live broadcast of the David Peake show.

During the entire second period and into the third period the fans were chanting Peake's name. Over this span, he scored a natural hat-trick - scoring the 4-1 goal 5 on 5 followed immediately by 2 PPGs. His effort was truly motivating. Not a soul left the rink at the end of the game. Upon being announced the 1st star, all 1500+ admiring fans chanted his name.

The Gryphons only took 2 minutes in penalties today, a drastic improvement from the 9 they took against the Canucks on Friday. "Discipline was a big part of our practice plan these past few days. We kept cool heads and they were the ones taking the penalties. With Peake back on the PP and Newell quarter-backing the rushes, our powerplay made short work of Bras meurtris' penalty kill unit" said coach Stubbs.

The Gryphons once again dominated their opponent in the shot department, out shooting their opponent 31-19 en route to the 8-1 victory. The Gryphons are home to German outfit Peacock Athletic from Bayern tomorrow before travelling west to Alberta to face a struggling Team Kevin. The Gryphon's next home game is Friday the 23rd when they host the mighty cats.

In off-the-ice news, The Brampton Capitals (formerly the Screaming Eagles) are reportedly stopped pursuing the services of Jean Appleton. Their qualifying offer still stands but any bids in the future will not see Brampton bidding in competition. This likely means that Appleton will be finding work outside of the 1 hour trek to Brampton from Guelph.

Lastly, new arrival Warren Anderson is listed as day-to-day after receiving a deflected puck in the face in practice yesterday. Anderson was working on the penalty kill with a shot from the point hit a stick and struck him right below the right eye. "It is just a little swollen. The inflammation should subside in a couple days. He can play if he is needed but it would be wise to rest him given the short recovery time with these types of injuries. We had sent him to a specialist and there was no damage done to either his eye or orbital bone" said head physician Dr. Dale McLeary.
