Late last night the Brampton Screaming Eagles put in a submission to change their name to the Capitals. The submission has been approved and the Capitals played their first game under their new name today, a 7 - 3 win in league play against the visiting Nordik. Most of the 457 fans in attendance at the Powerade centre were in shock when their home team was announced by their new nickname.
In order to stop the confusion, team owner, mrnegative15 came down to the ice before the opening face off and explained the situation with the following announcement: "Brampton fans. As you now know the Screaming Eagles are no longer. The decision was made late last night to make the switch, and to be honest, we didn't think the approval would come through this fast. So, today we will wear our Screaming Eagles jersey for the last time ever, and look forward to a new start as the Capitals. I know you must be wondering why we decided to make the change. The reason is simple, lately we've been doing some big moves in terms of getting new players and sending some out of the organization as well. Secondarily, you'll notice that Section C of the Powerade centre is currently under construction. We've decided to install 300 more seats, a new concession stand, a new merchandise stand and, a long over due press centre as well. The new press centre should attract a better product when watching SportTV's broadcast of your Brampton Capitals. Next time you folks will be in the Powerade centre the Capitals will be playing against the Wolverines in league action and will be able to see your Capitals in their new home uniforms, as well as purchase Capitals merchandise."

As is obvious by the speech, changes are plentiful in the Brampton camp right now and it looks like more are to come. After the game mrnegative15 sat down with SportTV (the official broadcaster of Brampton Capitals hockey)and explained why the name "Capitals" was chosen.
"Originally, we had thought about a make-over under the Screaming Eagle nickname. In fact, we had the logo completed and were working with our uniform supplier to design the new look. But as we started lining up a whole bunch of friendly games, acquired new players and, secured the funds to expand the Powerade Centre we realized that this was really becoming a fresh start for our franchise. It was at this time we decided to just go with a complete make over.
We decided to go with the nickname "Capitals" as there is a Junior "A" team in Brampton with that name already and we wanted our name to have a tie-in with the community. The other options we considered were "maroons" and "blues" as Brampton's minor league rep. teams used to be called the "maroons" and there is a second junior "a" team in Brampton called the Bramalea Blues.
We then decided to purchase an old logo that the Capitals used to use in the late 1990s to use for our team, again to pay homage to the community.
From there it was a simple request to change our team name, which was accepted very fast (which we appreciate) and on we go."
SportTV continued this interview in asking about the upgrades to Brampton's Powerade Centre. Asking what the motivation was to expand and upgrade.
"Truthfully? To help you guys." (laughs) "But honestly. The Powerade centre is a big part of the future of this hockey club. We installed the scorboard at the start of the season. That was goal #1, completed earlier than we had hoped for. Goal #2 is to expand everything, more seats, better concession options, potentially a full restaurant, more access to merchandise, a complete team store, luxury boxes, media centres, ect, ect, ect. We want the world to be able to have access to Brampton Capitals hockey. How to we accomplish that? Having as much availability to media as possible and having as much seating available as possible. This way you can experience the Capitals live or turn on your tv and see the game, or even click your mouse and find the Capitals there too."
mrnegative15 wrapped up the interview by saying:
