Канада Stoney Creek Saints† - The Halo - Vol 1, Issue 2 - March 25, 2010

Saints HC had their home opener yesterday at The Battlefield, and what a battle it was.

The entire game was a battle for both teams, as the possession/pressure for the game was fairly split between the two teams.

After an initial flurry of shots and offensive pressure, the Saints gave up the games' first goal on the PP. The Powerplay would prove to be a sticking point in the Saints' gameplay for the rest of the match-up.

After some hard nose battling, the Saints climbed back and took a 2-1 lead early in the third period. Goals by Jeff Bradbury and Guy "Dick" Grayson gave the Saints what ended up being a temporary lead. With their goalie pulled, the visiting GENEVA managed to tie the game up in the dying seconds of the 3rd.

Obviously crushed by giving up the late lead, the Saints went into Overtime and never really picked up their game as GENEVA scored on their first shot in the Overtime period, winning the game in dramatic fashion. After the game, Saints GM saint2e had the following comments:

"Well, obviously when you give up a tying goal in the last minute, it's heartbreaking. We never really recovered, and that's something we're going to have to work on going forward."

saint2e also was visibly frustrated with the amount of penalties his team gave up. "We've got some guys out there that are constantly putting us into a negative situation. There will be some changes upcoming that will hopefully rectify that situation". Though saint2e didn't name names, one only has to look at the Boxscore to identify Chris Houde with 4 penalties as a prime candidate for a "change of scenery".

When asked how his team feels about this tough loss, saint2e replied with, "You're right, it is a tough loss, however, it's also a learning experience for the guys. You DO NOT let up in the third period. We should've had this game won, and we gave up 2 points in the process. That being said, we knew this would be a tough season for us and so far we've accumulated 4 out of 6 possible points. That's not bad. But there is definitely room for improvement, and I feel we could've easily had all 6 points."

The Saints play another tough opponent on Friday in "Lincoln High". When asked about the Saints' next opponent, saint2e had this to add: "Well, he's the arch enemy of my good buddy Bizan, the GM of Bizan HC, so we're looking to do him a favour and beat Lincoln." He then slyly added, with a wink: "Someone has to show Bizan how it's done, seeing as how he couldn't beat Lincoln at all last season!"
