Bricktown TwigStarz - Starz Leave It Late
06.01.22
Bricktown
This seasons TwigStarz certainly have a flair for the dramatics, pulling off a win yesterday over Minion Fly courtesy of a Brennan Meehan goal with under 3 minutes left.
This one wasn't just a late winner, though, as it had to withstand a video review. Minion Fly goalie Gaston Narvaez didn't get al of the Meehan one timer from the slot, the puck squeezing through him and rolling precariously towards the goal. Arguments can be made that he then, in a frantic effort, spun around and covered up before the puck crossed the line, but the goal judge thought otherwise. After what seemed like an eternity, the ref pointed towards centre ice, and the arena- this year a powder keg- exploded.
This was the most recent in a series of what most fans would agree are stunning results, having already beat both Weiser and Microbrasseurs earlier in the year. It came at a perfect time, as they had just come off a close loss in the away match at Weiser, and were reaching a tough stretch in the schedule. 5 of their next 9 games come against clubs currently above them in the standings, something that will really prove this teams worth.
That said, yesterdays match may have already proven a few doubters wrong. Despite the late winner, this wasn't a game that Bricktown stole, so to speak. Final shot totals were 31-12 in their favor, and the only goal Minion Fly could muster came on the PP. All in all, this was a solid team effort. Everyone came out to play, and it was obvious from the first faceoff, with checks being finished, bodies flying, energy all over, from the team to the racous supporters.
Another amazing day in Bricktown, but the season is far from over.
Come on you Starz.
