Elmira Horse And Buggies† - Buggy managers making adjustments
The Elmira Horse and Buggies may have just become a serious threat. Not because they've begun scoring a lot of goals, although that may be the result soon enough, but rather because of a recent change in philosophy when it comes to purchasing players.
"At the beginning of the season, we made a decision to go for younger players who were better able to be here for a long time," said manager Victor Barnett. "But more recently, we've realized that without the players who have a lot of experience, those players can't thrive. So we've decided to begin adding those experienced players to the ones we already have."
The change in outlook has come in the middle of a bad season for the buggies and on the heels of their worst season since it changed ownership and was purchased by Mitchdawgmuir Co. The owner has been very difficult to find.
"He likes his alone time," said Barnett.
The team is welcoming their new goalie, Normunds Vasks, who came to the Buggies from HC Zetor in the Czech Republic, where he only played a handful of games, but had the starting role for his first team, Zenit Daugavpils of Latvia, which is presently an inactive team. He was not available for comment.
"Whatever the case or whatever the outcome, this will be a learning experience for us," said defenceman Ludwig Mester. "It should help us out a lot in the long run."
