USA Rockland Rage - Luis "The Hammer" Hegre Inducted Into Rage Hall of Fame

Suffern, NY—February 27th, 2021 – Luis ‘The Hammer’ Hegre’s legendary PPM career featured a League Championship, a Defensive scoring title and a selection to the season-long All-Star team in Season 38.

Now it also includes induction into the Rockland Rage Hall of Fame.

Hegre joins The Rage pantheon as one of only four former players to be enshrined in their Hall since the club’s founding in Season 20.

His 708 games played is second all-time for the team, spanning a 15-season run that saw the native of Oslo, Norway, net an astonishing 154 goals and 429 assists for 583 points making him the highest scoring defensemen in Rage history and the team’s all-time team leader for assists.

Hegre has been Captain of the Rage since taking over for fellow Hall of Famer, Danny “Cap” Braun in Season 31, and was the team’s top scoring defensemen 11 times over the course of his 15 year career.

When he wasn't racking up points, “The Hammer” was also capable of delivering game-changing body checks. At 6-4, 235 lbs., he developed into one of the best open-ice hitters the game had ever seen.

"That's the game and that's the beauty of the game," Luis said of hockey's physical element. "I think that's one reason why I love this game: there's physical contact and scoring and fighting, that's what the whole game was about.”

After all these years of donning the red and blue, and after all those achievements, Hegre, who announced his retirement on Jan. 6, 2021, has said that life after hockey suits him just fine, too.

"I'll tell you, I’m looking forward to relaxing a bit," he said. "It's a pretty rigorous schedule you are on [as a player], and it's great to have some spare time and to be around the house and do all of the functions of the kids, school, after-school sports and things like that."

With his hockey career now immortalized in the Rage Hall, the future remains wide open for Hegre. He still calls New York home, but he's ruled nothing out, including the possibility of future involvement with the team.

"I'm busy right now with renovating a farmhouse.” Hegre said. “I have two kids in high school which keep me going, but I'm definitely going to try to keep my foot in the door and leave my options open. I will always remember my time in Rockland and all the good folks at this organization.”

People who have followed Rage Hockey will remember Luis “The Hammer” Hegre as a great defenseman who had an outstanding career.
