Stoney Creek Saints† - The Halo - Vol 1, Issue 4 - April 8th, 2010
Today was a busy day for saint2e, the GM of the Stoney Creek Saints. Kinda different on a day where there's no league game.
The reason being is that saint2e, the GM of Stoney Creek Saints, is also on the Team Canada staff, who were holding closed-door meetings to decide the roster of this year's Team Canada. When asked about how these meetings were proceeding, saint2e replied: "It's not my place to say anything, but I will say that there was a lot of hard work and deliberation done today. I'm very excited to be part of the Team Canada staff. That being said, please direct all further Team Canada questions to the GM/Assistant GM canucks and mightyoil, as they are in charge."
A bit overshadowed by the closed-door meetings of the Team Canada staff, The Saints were involved in a Tournament game against a tough opponent in themightyoil, and fought valiantly, but ultimately fell 4-1 to the current 5th place team in I.1.
"Well, we knew we were in for a tough match-up against themightyoil." saint2e said, starting off today's press conference. "We like to approach these games as a test to see where we are with the team. We know we're not at their level yet, and are actually encouraged that we kept the game close at 4-1."
The Saints gave up 41 shots and only had 14 of their own, but controlled a lot of the play. "Yeah, it was a real test for Seth and Glen today," commented saint2e, "They faced a lot of quality shots from a superior team and came away with around 90% save percentage. Clearly their development is coming along nicely."
When pressed about the discrepancy between shots for/against, saint2e wasn't too concerned: "We know that we need to improve defensively, and I think the shot difference can be attributed to that. It's going to be our focus for the next little while. We have a long term plan, and we're sticking to it."
saint2e concluded the press conference with these remarks: "I'm very proud of how we're playing lately. We held Calgary Patches, a team that always plays us well, to a scoreless draw, we'd won the previous 4 league games, and we're currently sitting 6th in a very tough league. Seth Johnson has been huge for us lately, and our young guns are starting to gel, and the defensive core will continue to grow, as long as we can keep healthy. I'd say we're going to be very competitive this season, and I'm looking forward to the next few months."
Clearly the Saints' GM is very encouraged by his team's play, and that should give Saints fans something to be pumped about for the remainder of the season.
