Kanāda Royal City Redshift - Royal City Spectra - V3E5: Redshift Reach National Cup Final, Qualify for International Competition on a Goal in the Final Minute

Eight-teen thousand three hundred fans packed northlands arena in Alberta. Redshift faithful traveled over 3,000km by car, train and plane to observe history. Much of the game was a close fought duel. One of Redshift defending and Mighty Oil attacking. After surrendering a goal in the first period Newton settled and continued his strong play and leading by example. 33 seconds into the second the Redshift would draw level on a goal by Maximilian Soltys. Veterans Memorial Arena erupted as fans had packed it once more to watch the game on the big screen.
The next 40 minutes would be the most intense hockey in Redshift history. Newton made 23 saves through the following 39 minutes and shortly after the "last minute of play in the third period" the announcers called the following play:

"40 seconds left and the Royal City Redshift player intercepts a pass at his own blue line. The Mighy Oil player tries to regain possession but Erik "Big Money" Söderholm dishes a great rink-wide saucer pass for Dobroslav "Slovak 'Fro" Felbar, who gains entry into the offensive zone. He is in the corner now and delays for a bit. Radoslav "The Z-Factor" Zimmermann is trailing on the play screaming for the pass! The pass is made as he crosses the blue line. Zimmermann walks win. Zimmermann still with it. Zimmerman... Zimmerman in close... Zimmermann fires a shot from a tight angle and... ZIMMERMANN SCORES! Redshift take the lead with seconds left in the game! Zimmermann with the potential game winner! Oh baby the jubilation!"

Zimmernann's goal would prove to be enough as the Redshift held on for the final charge by the Mighty Oil. When the final buzzer went, the scope of hockey in Guelph would never be the same. The Royal City Redshift, a lowly division two club, has earned their spot in the National Cup finals and even more exciting, an international competition next season.

"It was almost like it was meant to be" said Zimmermann who scored the game winner. "I was a healthy scratch for a few games, specifically national cup games when we rolled three lines. However when Fred Champman broke his wrist, I was slotted back in. I will be honest. I was surprised to be put out there in a close game like that in the final minute of play, but we're a veteran group of guys here and when I got the puck at the blueline I just didn't want an attack coming the other way. I held on until I saw an opening short side. I was in shock when it went in."

The game featured another stellar display by Tim Newton who stopped 33 of 34 Mighty Oil shots.

"Tim was spectacular for us tonight. Simply clinical. He has illustrated time and time again why he is called 'The Franchise'. I'm proud of our club. Never been more happy with them. We had several managers from other clubs wish us well before the game. There is something to be said for an underdog story. Hard to believe a team from the second division has knocked off four consecutive division one clubs, and all teams who have finished in the top two at some point in I.1" said canucks357.

The championship game will be held next Tuesday, April 3rd, when the Redshift will attempt to complete their miraculous run in Quebec against Les Sanguinaires.

"It wouldn't be poetic if we had an easy final game. This final game will be the toughest yet. We have worked hard to get here, and we are a tired group. We'll be relying heavily on Newts (Tim Newton) once again but we are confident. They're rink is small, so we anticipate an intense atmosphere. This will be the game of our lives. You never know when you'll have a chance to repeat such a triumphant task. We won't let it slip away. We will make the best of our chance" said veteran center Teodor Vaverka the older skater on the team.

The Redshift continue their road trip where they'll face the Incredible Foes tomorrow before returning home for two games on Thursday. They are expected to be greeted with a large group of Redshift faithful. Tickets for the viewing of the championship game at Veterans Memorial Arena are already sold out. The mayor of Guelph has even declared the 3rd a one-time holiday so all residents could view the biggest game in franchise history.
