Kanada Royal City Redshift - Gryph News - Vol 4 Issue 7: A New Season is Upon Us - Transfer Season

Guelph Gryphon players slept uneasily the past few nights worried that they'd get a call announcing their pending transfer. Gryphon management told the club and all its players and staff that the club would transfer some players before the next season starts and into the first week of next season.

For many players, this was terrible news as it meant that likely a dozen or so of them would get the dreaded phone call and have to pack their bags. For others, it could mean a new start. Goalie František Levý has long been the #3 to Newton and Garnett just waiting for a chance. After appearing in the odd friendly game and with 4th stringer Radosta working hard to make the top-3, "The New-Orleans" Levy put in his request to be transferred. Many other players like Endre Seres, Tibor Peter, Avis Baumanis etc. also are welcoming a change and a chance at a more significant role.

However, the announcement also meant long-time players and veteran players would be getting dealt too. The most surprising of all was that of Lee Nicholson. Nicholson had worn an A at one point in his career and along with Guy Richard has played in every league game in Gryphon history. The announcement of his departure has left the entire Gryphon family speechless.

"I knew this day would come eventually. I've been a PIM king on the blueline for far too long. I play a rough and tough style of play and I've helped the team get to where it is today. However, sitting out some of the playoffs and seeing the talent of some of the younger guys, I knew my days were numbered. I'm just thankful for the time I had. I wish everyone all the best" said Nicholson the Gryphons' most experienced player.

Some younger players who got transfer listed are also a little unsure as to how they feel about the transfer. Tony Ferris, who currently has The Moderately Neato pursuing him heavily stated "I'm new to the family and know I likely won't crack the lineup. I'm excited at the prospects of moving, especially staying in Canada and here in Ontario. The Neato present a great opportunity I'll just have to get used to training in a "Relatively Okay Arena". They certainly are an up-and-coming organization backed by strong, and slightly crazy, management, but it poses a good opportunity. I think they should stop upgrading their facilities and just keep buying more of my buddies from the Gryphons so that way we can really have a positive winning influence on this young organization." Quite the statement from Mr. Ferris.

When asked about the trade and Aowyr's pursuit of some Gryphon players canucks357 said "I don't get into too much of this stuff with other managers. I let my players abilities make the sales. Aowyr is a good manager and a solid guy he just needs to rub that off on his players who tend to run around like a "Mean Machine". I think any Gryphon influence in that organization would be a solid move on their part. Although Aowyr likes to have the last laugh, so it wouldn't surprises me if he marked a transfer between the two of us as suspicious and fined me the money of the transfer with his gamemaster status and kept my players" laughed canucks357. "He's a sneaky bugger like that. Keeps ya on your toes!"
