Kanada Royal City Redshift - Gryph News - Vol 3 Issue 3: Gryphons Drop Must-Win Game on the Road; Major Changes Expected

The Guelph Gryphons lost today what they call the biggest disappointment in recent memory. Despite only being the third game in what will be a long grueling I.1 season, management and players alike all feel this was a must win game.

"Nothing against Jay's Blinds but they are a team we feel strongly we should have beaten. We know we are the stronger club and we feel as if we were prepared as best as possible. Yet we left there today empty handed and a 3-2 loss" said Captain Guy Richard.

Perhaps they are right, but many will argue it is really too early to tell how teams stack up. "In the end it is a matter of a couple points to determine who finishes where. These 3 points in all likelihood will come back to bite us where it counts. I wouldn't be surprised at all if this is the difference between a higher seed or even making the playoffs. We know the battle that lies ahead of us, we will just have to make sure we are fully prepared once more to win next week. There are no easy games. Anyone can beat anyone on any given night. That is what makes this league so exciting. Tonight we were the team getting beat. Monday we must be better" said Coach Stubbs who is an expert defensive tactician and still gave up over 30 shots today.

"I felt good out there today. It was frustrating losing I mean I saw lots of rubber and held the fort pretty well at times. We gave up chances but it wasn't anything ridiculous. At the other end he made 28 saves as well the only problem is they scored one more. It is time to put this behind me and move on. I know I'm not playing this weekend so I have some time to recharge and get focused for Monday. I will face yet another familiar goalie at the other end in Tierns (Noah Tierney) so I will certainly have to bring my best game" said goalie Tim Newton who suffered his first regulation loss in competitive play since January 29th.

As far as changes being made, offensive coaches Piotr Bronisz, Dominik Chytil and Teodosie Militaru released a joint press statement.

"Recent events have brought forth a glaring weakness in our club. As a coaching staff we expect to address this weakness immediately. We will NOT be bringing in any talent, but we WILL be changing our practice and off-ice habits as a team. We have many offensively gifted players who are playing a checking role and will soon be given the creative freedom on the ice. When all is said and done, this will mean more exciting hockey for our fans and most importantly more wins."

With that being said, fans can only anticipate the changes and look forward to the next few weeks to see how it develops. In other news, the first of eight construction phases has started at Veterans Memorial Arena. Capacity has thus been reduced and look for tickets to be tougher to come by for the remainder of the season.
