Kanada Royal City Redshift - Gryph News - Vol 3 Issue 6: Tim Newton Shines as Gryphons Win on the Road

The Guelph Gryphons did not show up to play today when they traveled to face Les Sanguinaires. The Gryphons knew the game would be a battle, but they did not anticipate the performance that took place. While the Gryphons secured a 3-1 win, the fashion the win was in was shocking. The Gryphons were dominated for a whole 60 minutes. Their opponent had as many shots in the third period as the Gryphons had all game. The final tally was 36-16 for Les Sanguinaires. Excluding a powerplay goal in the third period, Tim Newton was brilliant and near flawless.

"This is one of those games you feel good about. Over the years the team has done most of the work, made my job easy. Tonight I think I returned the favour. I've been working really hard to keep the number 1 job right now and I know President and CEO canucks357 is also managing the national team and I want to make sure he takes notice of my hard work and performances" said Tim Newton after the win. Clearly his league leading save percentage and GAA below 2 will cause many people to take notice in a league like I.1. "I'm not really sure why we came out so flat. There has been some distractions going on with the club right now that I'm not at liberty to speak of, perhaps that is at the root of it."

Many internal components of a team are kept secret, but upon concluding the interview and heading from the office where the phone interview was conducted to the rink a young Gryphon coach Jeremy Stephenson was spotted. Clearly, he should have been in Quebec with the team at this point. So an interview was necessary. Was was discovered was clearly a good cause for the team's poor performance today. Jeremy Stephenson has actually been let go by the Gryphon management staff due to unprofessional conduct. Stephenson apparently had unprofessional relations with the secretary of Head Coach Stubbs and has been since shipped out... transfer pending. When asked about the incident, Stubbs responded "we have decided Jeremy does not fit in here. I will not say any more. If you feel he may at the root cause of our team's poor performance today you are mistaken. We have a veteran club and do not get caught up in any drama or non-hockey related issues."

The Gryphons will face first overall Bulldogs de Terrebonne. "We expect them to come out hard. They are playing every game right now as if it is a playoff game and we expect it to be a battle for each point tomorrow. Thankfully we are playing at home and should be able to use our wonderful fans to our advantage. We are pleased with our season thus far and will certainly want to continue this roll down the stretch" said Captain Guy Richard.

In other news, Lee Nicholson played today despite the flu. "Lee was given a green light to play by the doctors but in reality is day-to-day. We wanted to keep him in the lineup to continue his Gryphon record. Only he and Guy Richard have played every competitive game to date. It will take more than a flu bug to keep him out of the lineup" said Coach Stubbs.
