They Guelph Gryphons team refused to speak to the media after a 9-2 thumping in Alberta at the hands of themightyoil. The Gryphons were grossly outplayed and Tim Newton was relieved after 40min of action and 11 saves.

After landing back in Guelph, Gryphon coach Stubbs had the following comments:

"On behalf of the Gryphon organization, I want to apologize for the media blackout. We were in a state as a team where we needed to stay together as a family. We did not want to get pulled into anything that could be portrayed as a crisis as this is nothing like that. We have two warmup games this weekend against the Halifax Eagles before facing them Monday in league play."

The home and home with the Eagles was split with a win for each side. The Eagles won Saturday in Guelph and Guelph won Sunday in Halifax. Monday's league match would prove to be the rubber match and would be crucial for the Gryphons to stay at the top of the I.1 standings.

The Gryphons would out shoot the Eagles almost 2:1 in the game but would only narrowly sneak out a 4-3 win with Ryan Kite getting the winner with 10min left in the game.

"A win is a win. Critics are starting to judge me once more. The past two games the numbers haven't been there personally for me. But I am the same goalie who put together that string of good games. Everyone has assured me their faith within the organization. I am not worried" said Tim Newton after the game. "And in regards to being a last-minute scratch for Team Canada, that is how things go. canucks357 was planning on getting me in for the Hungary game but Friday's performance shot that down. I need to be better and more consistent. I know that. I respect his decision."

The Gryphons are now tied for 2nd with themightyoil and are only 3 points up on 9th place. The race in I.1 is surely heating up. The Gryphons have TutorialHC on Tuesday in National Cup action before playing on the road against the last place les canadiens.
