Kanada Royal City Redshift - Gryph News - Vol 3 Issue 14: Gryphons Earn 6 of 9 points and Win in National Cup

The Guelph Gryphons earned 6 of a possible 9 points this week as well as winning handily in the national cup. The Gryphons downed Tutorial HC 12-0 and followed it up with a 5-0 win on the road against les canadiens. Tim Newton would take his shutout streak with him for yet another big I.1 game between the Brantford Nytes and the Gryphons. The battle of highway 24 would start in the Gryphons favour, as Peake would score under 4min into the game. However, penalty trouble would eventually cost the Gryphons as they would lost 5-2 surrendering 3 powerplay goals on 6 penalties. The Gryphons loss drops them to 6th in I.1 despite out shooting their opponent 28-18.

"There are some nights things just don't go your way. We felt we were as tactically prepared as we could be. We've been working steadily to improve our play in our own zone to reduce the number of penalties we take. We've also been working hard to improve our PK. Clearly we need to work harder in that area" said Head Coach Stubbs.

The Gryphons sit 18th in PP% and 13th in PK%. This does not help a team that is the 7th most penalized team in the league and whose opponents take the 6th fewest penalties.

"It certainly is an area we really need to work on. I don't know how else to get the point across. Our special teams are an embarrassment to be frank. Getting Marty (Martin O'Brien) back will certainly help our PP and PK. He has a good shot and can really lay the body and move the puck. That will really help our club. However, it takes more than one guy and I think everyone needs to take responsibility and take things more personally" said Guy Richard the Captain.

The Gryphons now have a weekend series against Deva Red Wings of Romania. Following the weekend set they have a short trip to play at yet another strong club, Frigid Affair. The Gryphons will then host a strong and unpredictable Canadiens du Mont-Royal team in the next round of the national cup.
