Omaha Blizzard† - RD 2 of IV.4 Playoffs (Season 15)
After an exciting first round the second round matchups are finalized and the series will begin tomorrow.
The round 2 matchups for the IV.4 League are as follows:
#1 Wiggly Pigs v #5 Omaha Blizzard -
After a tough fought first round by Omaha and a series that included two shutouts, the team manages to win their first round series 2-1. The Pigs on the other hand, seemed to put their foot on the gas and not look back in either game in their first round as they win their series 2-0. This matchup should be quite interesting and challenge both teams. The Pigs look to use their powerful offense and solid D to carry them again here. Carlson leads the team in goals in the post season but 5 players recorded scores in the previous series. Omaha will be relying on miscues from the Pigs as well as Cirstea to carry the team. Cirstea gave up 3 goals in 3 games and faced 81 shots. Omaha will need their offense to come through though, with 6 Blizzard players tallying scores in the first series they will need more of that success. The Pigs goalie didn't face more than 24 shots in either game. The netminders will be key in this series.
The regular season record for these two was split 1-1 with the Pigs leading the scoring 6-5 and an OT win for the Blizzard.
#2 Boston Bruin's All-Stars v #3 Butter Knives -
The #2 seed had all they could handle from their lower seeded first round opponent but got the wins that mattered and won their series 2-1. The Butter Knives counted on their stacked roster and had a little something extra in their series because they swept their first round opponent when they were so even coming into the playoffs, they won 2-0. BBAS will need to muster some offense if they hope to hang with the Knives. BBAS was able to only record 5 scores in the first series and each coming from a different player. However, in their series neither team shot more than 30 times on goal. Pokorny looks to continue his success in the second round as he leads the Knives in goals from the first series as he slipped 3 past the net minder. This series will come down to who can get more solid pucks at the net. The Butter Knives never even had to stop 20 shots and the BBAS had low shots against counts for most of the series as well. The defenses will have their work cut out for them in this series.
The regular season was a sweep by the Butter Knives with a total tally of 8-3.
#4 Huntington Hitman v #8 Rochester Americans -
Two teams a little beat up and fatigued from their first series. HH couldn't get it done down the road and lost their first series 1-2. The Americans ran into a very determined #1 seed and couldn't do much to hang with them in either game, despite how much the game was a priority for them. Both offenses will need to wake up for their teams, both teams come in totalling 5 goals and no one on either team has more than one. Both goalies can have amazing games but need consistancy in this series. HH was able to throw more pucks on goal in their first series and hope to use that to build a little momentum coming into this game. Rochester will look to rebound from a disappointing first round and have a fire lit under them I'm sure. Both teams have to make a statement in this series.
In the regular season these two teams split 1-1 with Rochester having a slight edge in total goals 7-6.
#6 Detroit Slackers v #7 Bombsville Atomics -
Two teams who were hoping to make noise early in the playoffs and may have come up a little shorter than hoped but still have a chance to make plenty of it in the second round. Bombsville showed that it doesn't matter what seed you are when the games begin because they gave their higher seeded opponent a scare taking them to 3 games (losing 1-2) and two games were a 1 goal difference. The Slackers had a great opportunity to prove they deserved higher than a 6 seed but weren't able to get much going for themselves on either side of the puck as they lost their series 0-2. These teams had low scoring totals in the first series and will need to build on offense. Kampmann for the Slackers is the only player with goals from both teams to have more than 1 goal. However, its the goalie for the Slackers who needs to get it together, allowing 11 goals in two games won't win you many. The opposite is true for the Atomics as they only surrendered a respectable 5 goals in three games. The offenses will have to prove themselves in this series.
In the regular season the series was split 1-1 with a tied score of 8-8 and BOTH games went into the shootout. THIS might be the most interesting and even matched series of RD 2.
