Woolmer Hill Wyverns† - Wyverns Liberated
Tonight saw a top of the table clash as the Wyverns entertained second placed Liberators at the Rackfield Arena. A jam packed house was treated to a game keenly balanced on a knife edge.
On paper the teams were pretty equal and the Wyverns only defeat of the season came at the hands of the Liberators. Surely with home ice advantage revenge could be taken.
The home fans were certainly believing so when the penalty killers scored shorthanded within the first 3 minutes of the game and gave the Wyverns a scarcely believable lead courtesy of Craig Wilson. Sadly the great work the PK managed was undone from the faceoff as the Liberators tied it up within seconds of the puck drop. A second goal from them pushed them into the lead and another victory over the now second placed Wyverns. Despite repeated attempts to score neither sides could turn possession into goals and the game concluded 2-1 to the visitors.
Wyverns Head Coach Saroun was asked his opinion after the game. 'It was close, but we expect more from this. Maybe Overtime would have been fairer result, maybe Liberators could not turn up. Probably still too many needless penalties taken. Work to do, but still games to be played.'
GM Ransom shook hands with his opposite number after the game. 'It says something that both goalies were in the three star selection. It was nip and tuck all game and it could have gone either way. Don't write us off yet, there are still games to play, it's just going to be a little harder than we had hoped.'
