SALISBURY NORTH STARS† - STARS GET SEASON 3 STARTED WITH A WIN
The Salisbury North Stars begin season three in front of 433 hometown spectators with a 5-4 netminding gem by #1 goaltender Ian "Champs" Champman, who looks for all intents and purposes like he's in National Team tryout mode. Looks like he hasn't lost a step from last year. The game was only 40 seconds old when visiting El Chupacubra opened the scoring on an even strength marker when Ron Girard potted his first of the year on a backhand roofer rebound after a wraparound attempt by Zach Kosenen. Not a minute later the North Stars began a four goal run starting with a sharp wrister from Captain Phil Todd at 1:02. Then Job Cytawa on a powerplay, Livan Sanchez and Tizz Izzet with even strength goals made it 4-1 before Joe McGuckin cut the lead to two goals to end period one. the North Stars were shooting at 44.4% efficiency in that first period. Only thre penalties in the frame, 2 for Salisbury and 1 for El Chupacubra.
The second period saw the Stars under pressure for most of the period by the three line bech of El Chupacubra. Seems like the Stars left it up to the superb netminding of Champs, withstanding a barrage of shots, stopping all but a rebounder by Allan Kerr and a questionable video judge call to tie the score 4-4 at the end of 40 minutes.
