Bricktown TwigStarz - Shipping off to Poland
Wednesday started off with a bang in Bricktown, as GM TwigStarz sent the teams first ever import, Gaspar Halabrin, to Polish side DragonsDG, as well as original Star Brent Kusy to Gregoriani in the Czech Republic.
Gaspar Halabrin, 21, leaves after 5 seasons as the 3rd highest scorer in team history, a former standout on the first line, with 266 points (94G, 172A) in 154 games. His production has been on the decline lately, however, potentially correlating with similar decline in ice time. When asked to explain his reasoning, GM was quick shoot down any hard feelings or rift between himself and the player, simply stating that "our mission here in Bricktown is to become a platform for Canadian players to showcase their skills, and last I checked, Bratislava was not a Canadian city.
We're very pleased with Gaspar's contribution for the club, he's performed far beyond our expectations and really helped the club succeed and push into the second division. That said, we feel that we've also upgraded the roster and have youthful Canadian boys knocking on the door, in John, Matt and Armand all looking for opportunities.
We wish him all the best, and hope he can continue his success in Poland.
Kusy, or "Kooz" as he was affectionately known, heads to Europe after being with Bricktown since the club was reborn, after helping the new incarnation of the TwigStarz get over the growing pains. He amassed almost a point per game (15G-29A), although 7 years old saw him lace them up for 46 games. He'll be remembered for more than that, however, as his leadership and presence in the locker was key as the team struggled early in it's existence, and in the now 23 year old, Gregoriana are getting a valuable piece to their puzzle. Age was a factor in his departure, but also something that was on Kusy's mind, as even he understood where he lay in the GM's plans, hardly featuring aside from games with the 'B' side.
"I'm not young, that's for sure, and it's been quite the journey. We've seen a lot in this short span, and I'm so lucky to have been a part of it. That said, I'll head overseas, and prove that I do have more left in the tank, and who knows, maybe one day I'll be back..."
Two big moves, two members of the original season of the rebirthed Starz gone, but the future looks bright, an average age of still only 19 showing that there's plenty of room to grow.
In other news, the Starz weren't left with any time to dwell on the loss of two key players, facing DeathTeam in Wednesday's league game.
A very slow start saw them almost exit the first down, but a late goal evened things up, before the tide shifted in the middle period.
Five in the second, 11 unanswered in total, and a lights out performance the rest of the way from Caven saw out an 11-1 win on the road, the Starz looking to keep climbing back up the table, eyes firmly on a playoff spot.
Money wasn't a factor in either transfer, but for those who are keen, Halabrin went for $873 585, and Kusy for $30 000.
