加拿大 Royal City Redshift - Gryph News - Vol 3 Issue 10: Newton Shines Yet Gryphons Fall to Former II.2 Rival Vanucks

The Guelph Gryphons traveled to face the Vanucks on Friday where they were defeated by a score of 2-1. The Gryphons were outshot badly, 31-15, and can thank goaltender Tim Newton for keeping the score respectable. The Vanucks would score 2 goals in just over a minute and a half span in the second period. Dan Sharp would chip away at that lead before the end of the frame but the three shots the Gryphons put on net in the third would not be near enough to come back for a win.

"Our level of give-a-sh!t was certainly not there tonight and that is a travesty. We pride ourselves on consistency and our persistent level of compete. Against the Vanucks our performance was strictly unacceptable. Full credit to them for playing an excellent game. We must simply be better though. The league is far too tight to start losing multiple games in one week" said Coach Stubbs.

The Gryphons have a tough April month, with the majority of their games on the road. Thankfully, May is much kinder with 8/13 games at home. On the bright side, the Gryphons won both games against Bern Blue Fire, a Swiss club, this weekend. Tim Newton was given the weekend off to rest for the following week of games and sat down with canucks357 and the coaching staff to discuss his performance thus far.

"We just wanted to make sure Newts knew where he stands. We are thrilled with his performance thus far this season, but we also want to make sure he doesn't become satisfied with the fact he's playing lots and is back on Team Canada. We have a more than capable backup in Ian Garnett and Newts knows he must earn every minute of ice time. He's done that thus far and we expect much of the same" said President and CEO canucks357.
