The Guelph Gryphons took part in the opening weekend of the 1st Annual HF Boards friendly tournament this weekend. The Gryphons managed to snag two wins, but the games were far too close for comfort.

The Gryphons took the first game, at home, coming back from down 3-1 to take home a 5-4 win. The next night, the Gryphons surrendered a 3-1 lead and were forced to score once again late in the game to secure the victory. Both games saw the Warriors almost tie it up with their goalie pulled, only to have Ian Garnett pull out some big stops in both occasions.

The tournament features 16 teams from Canada and the USA. All managers actively participate in discussions on HFBoards.com or in the forums on PPM. Next weekend the Gryphons will have a home and home with Flying Bartlebys.

"I want to give full credit to Joppy and the Warriors. They played two exceptional games and gave us a real run for our money. They have a solid program over there and have a magnificent club. I wish them nothing but the best the rest of the tournament and the season" said canucks357 to fellow President and CEO Joppy of West Co. Warriors.

The Gryphons next league game is Monday when they host Skillz That Killz. Another action-packed game is predicted as the Gryphons look to hold on to top spot in Canada's II.2.

In transfer news the Gryphons have picked up Polish forward Marcin Szalak. The Gryphons are hoping for a bright future for the forward, stating "he has great potential to be one of the best skaters and puck handlers in the league" according to Manager Mark Clode. The acquisition puts the Gryphons at 39 players and 17 staff, with physio James Locke currently on the market.
