Kanada Vancouver Giants† - Giant Report - Issue 2

The Giants have overcome early season troubles, and with 5 consecutive wins they have moved to the top of the II.2. They have not had an easy schedule lately, having to face 4 straight playoff contenders in Drunken Monkeys, Kitchener Canucks, NORDIKS, and arguably the toughest test for the Giants in this league, the Incredible Foes. The latest game featured one of the best periods for the Giants this season, scoring four goals in the final period, which included a goal scored by Steve Tessier while down on a two-man advantage. The Giants have an easier schedule coming up next week, facing the 17th and 15th ranked teams in the league as of this weekend. Both of those games are at home, where the Giants have been getting the largest crowds out of anybody in this league. They sold out their 2600 seat stadium on Wednesday, which ties them with themightyoil as the second largest crowd to see a league game in Canada.

Vancouver has had an incredible offensive outburst this season, scoring 58 goals in 12 games, which is second only to Classic. 6 players for the Giants have over a point per game, leading the pace is American centre Ted Manning, who has 14 points in the 12 games. Branislav Galo is leading the way in the goal department, scoring 7 goals so far this season. The goaltending has so far been shaky for the Giants, both goalies having a GAA of over 3 this season. Head coach Yannick Abrahams believes though that starting goalie Stuart Moncur will break out of his slump soon. "Moncur has been solid for us these past two games, and I believe that he has finally shaken off his early season rust" Abrahams was quoted to have said after their latest win.

In National Cup news, The Giants have drawn Penguins de Gatineau in their opening game. They have a new manager who is looking to turn around his team's early season struggles. The Giants will not be taking them lightly however, knowing that an upset can happen at any time. "We are excited to be playing in the National Cup again, we have made it to the quarterfinals in two straight seasons and we want to continue our success this season" said captain Francois Messier after their practise today.
