SAD Minnesota Frostbite - Frostbite Finish Franchise-Best Second Place in Regular Season; Hoist Third Place Trophy for Second Straight Year

The Minnesota Frostbite reached the league semifinals, the third round of the National Cup, and lifted the third place trophy for the second consecutive year after recording a second place regular season finish that was the best in team history. The semifinal series was an instant classic, with the road team winning each of the first two games in shootouts, before the Frostbite fell in overtime on the road in the rubber match. "It was frustrating to be one goal away from the finals" said General Manager Joe, "but the team was right in the thick of things competing for a title, and this experience will serve us well moving forward."

Vince Mott was the first player in team history to be named to the season-long all-star team, where he was recognized as the league's top center after finishing fourth in the league with 52 goals. Mott also recorded his 300th career goal, 700th career point, and 400th career assist this season. Milton Morris finished 9th in league scoring with 100 points, including his 600th career point and 400th career assist. Patrick Black finished 4th in the league with a 91.98 save percentage, and recorded his 50th career shutout. Clint Winters and Phillip Cook both logged their 600th career points, while Douglas Franklin, Lonnie Benoit, Melvin Bonner, and Clint Hart reached the 500 point milestone, Paul Arevalo recorded his 300th career point, and Leo Corrian registered his 100th career point. Franklin, Hart, and Bonner all scored their 200th career goals, while Matt Vandyke and Donovan Dailey both scored their 100th career goals.
Winters also connected for his 400th career assist this season, while Benoit, Bonner, Franklin, and Hart reached 300 career assists, and Yusuf Pressley and Harry Chestnut both logged their 200th career assists.

Some new faces joined the team this season. Defenseman James Nunn, younger brother of Frostbite winger Thomas Nunn, was selected in the second round of the year-end draft. "Jimmy is a very smart, positionally sound defender, who won't always make the flashy play, but will usually make the right one," said Joe. To make room for Nunn, the Frostbite had to release Defenseman Ford Diaz, who recorded 20 goals, 34 assists, and 54 points in 82 games with the team. "Ford had been a reliable defenseman whenever we needed him to step up, and we will miss him" said Joe.

The Frostbite also signed defenseman Tecumseh Pena out of the sports academy. "Tecumseh is a very physical defenseman who is going to be a force in front of our net for years to come" said Joe. The Frostbite had to let long-time defenseman Casey Markts go to make room for Pina. Marks recorded 26 goals, 126 assist, and 152 points in 317 games for the team. "Casey played defensively sound hockey, and pitched in on offense in a lot of big games for this team, we wish him the best," said Joe.

Additionally, the Frostbite drafted center Gustaf Rinehart in the second round of the mid-season draft. "We expect Rinehart to be a solid, offensively aware centerman" said Joe. The Frostbite released center Thad Crocker to make room on the roster for Rinehart. Crocker scored 92 goals, 123 assists, and 215 points in 207 games with the frostbite. "Thad made a lot of contributions as a playmaking center that will be difficult to replace, we wish him luck in his career," said Joe.

Assistant Manager Marc Locket retired after a long career with the team. "Marc's scouting helped identify a lot of the talent that is giving the team its current success, his mark will be on this organization for a long time," said Joe.

The team continues upgrading its arena and facilities, recently completing an expansion to 3,050 seats in the arena. "We want to make sure we keep pace and accommodate the increasing number of fans we have been fortunate to attract," said Joe.

In international play, Frostbite General Manager Joe managed the U20 team to a berth in the qualifying round in the Top Division, making this the first time in more than 15 seasons that the team has managed to survive a season in the Top Division without being relegated.
