Canada Haliburton Gunners† - Haliburton Gazette - Gunners' Just Getting Started

When the announcement came that an upstart hockey franchise was going to be located in the small hockey loving town of Haliburton, the people of the town were ecstatic. Now, only two games into the Gunners’ inaugural season and most of the raw anticipation has disappeared. Unable to keep the contests close has led to a lot of discouragement where there was just a few days ago brimming enthusiasm.
However General Manager ForceFate says not to worry. “It is early on and this is a young team, it’s hard to start a team right up from the ground. We’re in the process of doing that here. The fans need to be patient for success, but it will come.”

ForceFate was then quickly cornered into questions concerning his plan and his time frame together a competitive team. “Well I think you see a lot of upstart teams dip their hands into the player market and pick up foreign players to help their team out right away. However, that doesn’t get them very far in the long run. I am going to focus on finding and developing homegrown talent and I will supplement them with players on the market. But, for right now all our money is going towards our Sport Academy and player development.”

He went on to give his goal of taking the Haliburton Gunners to Div.III hockey in the next three years. A goal that will be challenging and maybe even daunting but, certainly not impossible. Coach Brendan Thorne warned not to give up on this season. “We have a good enough team to win some games and sneak into 8th place.” said the rookie head coach. The Gunners are projected to finish between 9th and 12th place in the league, so although the team is off to a slow start in a town that is accustomed to being a winner; all hope is not lost and the horse is in fact just getting out of the gate.

The team also notified us to be ready for a Logo and jersey release coming hopefully this weekend.
