USA Leaf Nation† - Maurauders Milestones Vol 1 #2

Washington Maurauders GM Maurius Haeberle caused a stir at a press conference today when he suggested that the Maurauders current run of form could land them in the post season. Asked what his goals for the remainder of the season were the former German national team star replied through a translator: "I would like to see us make the playoffs. I don't think we are out yet. We have won five in a row in the league and I think that form will continue on into the postseason." That despite the Mauraders being 19 points out of the last playoff spot with just twelve games to play. When pressed on his remark, GM Haeberle pointed out that all three teams standing in their way were among the last twelve games of the season. "We should win at least nine of our remaining twelve including the three teams above us in the table. It's not impossible." While the GM did not mention him at the conference, free agent signing Oleg Sinitsyn is a big reason why the club's fortunes have suddenly turned around. Signed from the Havirov Flames for a mere $400000 dollars, the twenty-six year old netminder has brought stability to the nets along with an unflappable veteran presence. "He's a key sure. He's been great for us. He's one of the best goalies in the league quite honestly. We're a very young team especially on D so to have him back there really helps out. He's never caught off guard. He reads the game better than most forwards and he's amazing at dictating the pace of the play in his own zone." Norwegian captain Tarjei Smestad said regarding his new number one netminder. Adds defenseman and team defenive points leader Ilija Drinic "Oleg is our rock. He bails us out when we mess up. He tells us where to go, what to look for. And what's nice is he's played all these guys before so he knows their habits and their tendencies. That helps a lot." The netminder has posted a solid 2.50 GAA and sparkling .902 save percentage in his first five games with the club. In that span, the club has gone 5-0.
